Default Researcher's, a question on a health issue, with weight gain, and I need a recipe

First, my son has to make a microwave bundt cake . It has to be
without a mix. Can you help me.

I promise its for 4-H and we will need to practice, but the thing will
go to summer school as snack.

Next, Ive been working through my health issues. Wondering what could
be causing my weight gain. Because I know that my doctor put
me on a calorie diet of 1600. And no matter what I've been keeping
as close to it as I can.

BUt I am still putting on weight not taking off. I really just had a big
downer, yes Shelley and Curious I realize I ate a hamburger and hot dog
yesterday. But its less than I usually eat. And today was a really
nutritional meals plan for me. I had so much bran flakes because I
needed the fiber. I've also doubled up on the metamucil because
I was told if I needed too, to do so for a day or too. I felt the need
today. I take over 14 types of pills a day. So its hard to know if
any of my meds are causing any of the problems.

I have been very good at drinkings water products today. ANd
I did a good job of not drinking the diet coke the way I like too. I
drank other things. But of course I had one or two. But not 5.

Anyway, I just decided I'd see if I had gone up at all or down. And
it was not good, I am hoping my period is wanting to start I'm up
and I shouldn't be 244.

But I've been looking at something because I know that my doctor
is on medical leave, and I have to wait till June 13th, because I
goofed and missed my last appointment with my primary. And my
cysts were never rechecked. With all the other things they just
got left out of the equation.

But I know that one or more are still there. And I have been wondering
lately if that is part of my problem, and as of right now I'm wondering
if I might have polycystic ovaries syndrome.

Has anyone ever heard of this. ANd if so, what can I do till the 13th
to try and take care of myself to not trigger this to effect me.

I do know that my sugar can easily be off. I felt it today, but I also
know that unless I go back to eating the way I usually do. And
take myself off fruit and the things I'm eating, I'm going to feel miserable
and sugary.

I'm in trouble, dieting this way makes me sick when I'm lightheaded. I
need to eat certain types of things. And I can't on this kind of nutritional
diet.

It sounds weird, but I stayed down in weight and felt so much better.

with no gain when I didn't have to worry about lightheadness, I need
the sugar for my fix.

I have no clue what to do.

I realize it sounds like a whimp out. But its not. I am just not sure
how to handle this.

I don't want to start staying home all the time again.

I need to stay active. But if I don't figure out how to combat the
dizzy, lightheadness, and then stuff. I will not be able to leave
the house.

And I just got back on my feet. I am tired of being someone, who
can't seem to do things.

I also know I'm whining sorry.

Plus if I'm not on tomorrow don't worry, I'm off most of the day.
And I am contemplating doing a Derrick evening.

And my brain is fried because of my fall yesterday, and I'm not
sure but I need to figure out what happened to me.

Have a great week see ya soon.

the sugar is like a drug donna. your body is addicted to it.

it takes time for your body to regulate. it is so used to having the sugar highs.

you are doing much better than you were. it's a process.

lowering the diet coke also cuts your caffiene intake. another thing your body is addicted to.

beleive me donna...you are not the first one to crave and feel the need for these. i have been there. right there. i worked 12 -16 hours a day. had to be up up up and perky and motivating to work and own a health club. i ate skittles and drank diet coke. i will say i was skinny, but that was from being on the go, exercising, training and teaching classes all day.

it was hard to get off of them. it also wrecked my metobolism. i have weight to lose now, because of the choices then.

so awesome job on 2 diet cokes donna!!! try and do that tomorrow too. i know you can do it.

a better fruit..cantalope. sweet...but less sugar. or eat an apple including the peel.

the yuck feeling...your body is detoxing. just do what you can. toss half the bun away. never biggy size.

we don't mean to be harsh. we just care so much.

i need togo to bed..but i;ll look for some recipes tomorrow.

HI Donna,

You are not a whimp and you are not whining.

Breaking eating habits is hard and to try to do it in combination with something medically realated is that much tougher.

Yes I have heard of PCOS. And yes it could be related. And PCOS is directly related to insulin resistance (what I mentioned earlier). Matter of fact they sometimes treat PCOS with a drug for insulin resistance. Its important for your doc to do that two hour glucose and insulin test. I tested fine on teh fastng part but two hours later on the second draw it was clear how badly my body was dealing with food and sugar.

And remember estrogen makes us grow. Its stored in fat. So the more fat you have the more estrogen you store. So an estrogen imbalance can throw your metabolism off completely.

I also think you should get tested for thyroid condition. That too can throw your weight and metabolism off. Tell your doc to run a TSH and thrydoi antibodies.

THink of your hormones as a three legged stool. You have your thyroid hormones, sex hormones and adrenal. THey are all connected to your metabolism. If one leg on the stool if off then they all become off. So if the thryoid is off eventually the sex hormones will go off and then the pancreas and insulin (which is a hormone) gets off. Also with excess estrogen you liver can't clear it and it builds up in your body leading to fat storage.

Donna you can count on us to help you. And we will be honest and do our best.

But you need to get with your doc and discuss all of this.

did your dr have you go to a dietitian or nutritionist when they gave you the 1600 cal diet? That might be helpful - a balanced plan specific for what you can eat.

Oh check our womens health forum for PCOS info -

Default Bundt cake recipe

It wasn't easy to find a bundt cake from scratch! Here's one your son might enjoy:

Peanut Butter Jelly Swirl Bundt Cake

http://www.recipezaar.com/68989

Be sure and save me a piece!!!

Ooops! Just remembered it had to be a microwave bundt. These are all microwaved bundts, but not necessarily from scratch. Good luck! http://www.recipezaar.com/recipes.ph...&Search=Search

Shocked Cake recipe

Hi,
First things first.

I could not find a microwave recipe from scratch that has to be cooked in a bunt pan.

But here is a site that explains how to convert an old recipe to a microwave recipe:

http://www.microwavecookingforone.com/Adapting.html

The most important thing seems to be that you use less water and less salt.

Quote:
--Reduce the amount of liquid in the conventional recipe by about one-fourth because there is less evaporation in microwave cooking.

--Use no salt, or less salt. The microwave oven emphasizes the salt content in food, so recipes containing a conventional amount of salt will taste twice as salty.

--Foods containing liquid, sugar and fat cook faster. So reduce the cooking time by 1/4 of conventional cooking and then gradually increase until you obtain the desired result.

Here's another site with microwave cake recipes:
http://www.123easyaspie.com/micro.html

This site talks about the 4H cake:
http://en.allexperts.com/q/Microwave...Layer-cake.htm

I hope that this helps.

Hi, Donna,

I'm jumping in after everyone has given you good ideas.
Also have the doc check cortisol levels.

=-=-=-=-
SOME THOUGHTS
=-=-=-=-
I have not really been keeping up with this site so I don't know exactly what you are working on but I gather that the low sugar carb thing is not making you feel good and that you wish you could see some actual weight loss.

=-=-=-=-

I don't have good diet advice except to remind you that Weight Watchers says to eat a ton of fruit and vegetables (has to be a ton!).

When new people join and come a week later to the meeting they say that they have never eaten that much food before. And yet, they loose a good amount of weight the first few weeks.

I don't like fruit really except for maybe watermelon and a rare orange or apple, but I can eat veggies like steamed broccoli.
Do you have a few veggies that you eat?

=-=-=-=-
Another idea:
I have book that I can't find that says that the best way to loose weight is to eat a vegan diet and limited grain. He says that wheat products are a big no no.. He allows only 2-3 small servings a week from animal products. He says to eat a ton of vegetables, both raw and cooked. He allows a few fruits a day -- not many.

I did this diet for about weeks last summer --- no eggs, no milk, no fish, nothing that came from an animal. And no wheat.

It required me to cook my own food -- such hardship!
I ate lentils and peas and beans and nuts for protein. I also ate lots of cut up raw or cooked veggies.
I got take out Cuban beans and rice in my neighborhood.

I lost weight but gave it up for some reason. I think that my work schedule changed and I had a hard time preparing my own food at home. Maybe need to go back and find a system so that I can cook.

=-=-=-=-
I take Verapamil and have to watch out for constipation. So every night I take a teaspoon of Magnesium Citrate in water.
Other drugs probably can cause a change in the way that the body works as well.

=-=-=-=-
Ugh. I have not had a diet soda in 4 years. The aspartame is not good for some people. There are sites on the internet about the way aspartame can interfere with insulin and cause weight gain. I don't know if they are right because I am not a scientist but when I read stuff about aspartame I get yucked out.
So yeah, plain tea is better.

=-=-=-=-
If you can do something like chair yoga and practice deep breathing, you might find a benefit even if you are not doing heavy duty exercising.

=-=-=-=-

As for light headedness, what happens when you lie down and rest? Does that help?

Keep trying and stay on the plan for now.
Even if you are not losing weight, you are eating good foods for yourself and that is important.
Remind yourself of that.

Good luck!
I don't know if any of this will help. Mostly, know that I understand what you are going through and wish that I could help.

Mari

mari, weight watches is now based on a point system. not good nutrition. you can use up all your points ( which are pretty much just calories) by eating chocolate cake.

this is one reason why people are members of weight watchers for years and years. they lose and gain it back.

donna hasn't been on a low carb healthy diet. it takes time for your body to aclimate and get rid of the toxins created by eating high sugar and low nutriton.

only thing proven to work: proper nutrition and exercise.

Hi,
Yeah, I know that about weight watchers allowing people to eat junk.
But they recommend 5 fruits and veggies.
Also, their core program is very close to a low carb diet.
