Good for you Donna! that is the right way to think about it. How have your a1c's been do you get them every 3 months? They will tell you how your blood sugars have been over the past 3 months, this will tell you how good of control your blood sugars have been. It should be a number below 6.5 or below.
just curious

crudites and more crudites!

it's coming around again.... i've been wanting to do something about my weight too! i may have actually gained a pound! :(

well, recently i've been eating crudite's.

since i started seeing a few fresh (as opposed to frozen) broccoli and cauliflower enter the house, i dared to request a portion for myself... which i then ate RAW for various lunches. oh and a fennel bulb too. :) currently i am out of those but there are carrots and some peppers.

i mostly eat them with dip but i figure that is ok, considering a batch of dip lasts for 2-3 servings. the raw veggies are so much healthier than the way my family always overcooks them. i can't get sour cream, and can't get french onion soup so i improvised for making dip - it worked well...

base: 6-7oz yogurt + ~5oz cream cheese, blended together.

garlic dip: powdered garlic, chicken bouillon 2 tsp, or to taste (adjust downward if using garlic salt), thyme, marjoram.

curry dip: 2 tbsp curry powder/to taste, a bit of powdered garlic, crushed fennel seeds (from a fennel tea bag).
both are best if let set an hour or so, refrigerated.

the other night my folks had polenta with sausage. i put just a few slivers of cheese into the polenta, to melt, and had raw broccoli with that! :D did you know corn meal (polenta) and broccoli have complementary amino acids??? i.e., together they form a "complete" protein source.

your dips sound good waves and no I did not know that those two together make a complete protein! :)

this is great... means your face must have healed up a great deal - you could not have done this a few months ago, maybe even just a few weeks ago! yaaay! :yahoo:

I have some really neat information.

No one knows my mother. But she has always had trouble losing and
keeping weight off. I was at her house overnight. And she has lost
20lbs. She was so happy.

I am at a 6.0 a1c I believe was my last one. Its still good.

I am pleased with how its all going right now. Just to get my
migraines back under some control, I will be very happy.

Hi Dmom

Would you teach me about the term you used. You said you were at a 6.0 at 1c, I sure don't know what that means and would like to understand it as it has something to do with your weight. I watch my weight like crazy to keep what I lost off. I read any thread that I can learn from, or help my own diet go better. Thanks....ginnie

She is diabetic and the a1c is a blood test to see what her average blood sugars have been over the past 3 months. It should be below 6.5 so she is doing great at 6!have a good day today!
