Hi Bobby
Don't be worried about a colonoscopy eithor. Other than drinking some fluids that don't taste too good, and keeping the seat warm, the proceedure itself is very easy to go through. I had no discomfort whats so ever. Even the IV didn't hurt. It also helps if you like your doctor, just because it is an embarassment if you know what I mean. I happen to really like my doctor so I was relaxed to begin with. take care. ginnie

i am thinking of calling the office back at three to see why he hasn't returned my call.i am really scared that the colonscopy will find something awful. bobby |
Dear Bobby,
please talk to the doctor before tinkering with other solutions or booking a colonoscopy. while a flush with citrate should be safe, you should still see what he has to say about it. if it's what i'm thinking, i.e. the preparation used pre-colonoscopy - in the same qty, the stuff will and induce diarrhea for several hours ... very very very NOT fun. please call the doc and let him guide you. everyone here is different and our experiences are valid in individual contexts. you need to have an individual and expert evaluation. please take this one step at a time and do not let the anxiety overrun you into doing impulsive things to get fast results. the doc may tell you the med he gave you needs more time to work, or he may increase the dose, or add something. you can ask him about the solutions suggested here, also, but please don't proceed without his blessing. i don't think anything is terribly wrong. i think the diet altered your motility pattern and it will take a bit to get things "going" again. ;) love ~ waves ~ |
dear waves
i called the first doctor back and he returned my call. he said i should wait a few days for the miralax to work and it will work and if i wanted to try phillips milk of magnesium but the citrate of magnesium was strong and asked if i had ever used it before. i said no. he said if i wanted i could use it and it would really clear me out. he seemed pleased that i called for a colonscopy. that doctor still hasn't called me back. I hope you are right about the diet. I still am on a quasi diet and eating only when i am hungry. tonite i think i am skipping supper. i had a bowl of oatmeal in the afternoon. then on top of things i got a jury summons. i had sent in a letter from dr. m a few months ago when i first got a form which i guess they ignored and this time since it was a summons sent in a photocopy and said they had the original and had just seen my doctor and hope this would due. I am spinning. love bobby |

When I had this kind of problem. And had to do something. And went to urgent care. I ended up having a xray or ultrasound, can't remember which. That is when they figured out it was a blockage, and gave me the liquid to clear it up. I have had a couple of Colonoscopies also. Donna:grouphug: |
Hi bobby
[I agree with waves, don't get a colonoscopy unless you are told by a specialist that you really need one. enema is much less hard on a body than the citrus solution. Waves is right, it will sit you on the potty for a long long time. Usually that is given before a colonscopy only. Try the milder stuff first Bobby, the good old self help remedies. You will be OK. ginnie

I am glad he called you back.
Jeff got called for jury duty but he teaches which would be a hardship to replace so I think that he doesn't have to do jury duty. I got a letter from my pdoc some years ago so I got out of it somehow. bizi |
mag citrate

I never did take a supository; but did take Miralax almost every day; but still got blocked up. Actually looked up fecal incontinence. Because of the blockage, wasn't closing all the way so whatever little the Miralax did, it kind of started coming thru without my knowledge at times. Had to use a liner for just in case purposes. Also kept liners in my purse at all times as well if needed to change. Would not be much; but still there would be something on the liner. It was when I was looking up the fecal incontinence that I came across the mag citrate and Phillips recommendation. |
yes you could start with a half bottle of mag citrate and see if it works then the other half the bottle. when they use that for a colon prep they use 2 full bottles, like before surgery or maybe even before a colonoscopy instead of drinking that gallon of fluid like they used to. I have often heard that we should have a colonoscopy when we turn 50, have you ever had one before?
I am guessing that you have not. So it is good to get that out of the way. Have you ever had a hemicult test done on your stool checking for hidden blood. I just found out that they should be doing this simple test at every physical...mine doesn't and I will ask her to do it next pap. hugs to you. I know how frustrated you are...I have been there before, it is not pleasant and very worrysome. Even with taking a laxative I still had a hard stool that would not pass the other night, I was not drinking enough water. hugs to you my dear (((((HUGS))))) bizi |

The doctor has outlined some steps to take before you try the citrate of magnesium. That quantity of citrate of magnesium from the drug store is strong and likely much more powerful than you need. For me, the pain has been in giving up control over my body. My body is in charge. I have to go a long with it. Every once in a while I mourn over a time when I believed that the I had some say so with my body. M |
