Default What am I doing wrong with my new webcam?

Okay, I made a video yesterday with the new webcam I bought from Radio Shack. I had previously been using a Logitech (and I made dozens of videos so I DO KNOW HOW TO MAKE A VIDEO, and use a webcam).

Well!!! get a load of this. I uploaded it to youtube because I wanted to share this with family. It's like it recorded in fast forward. At least this is how it comes out on youtube. But when I pressed "record", it was jumpy and not recording smoothly.

Here, take a look

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S_sg9HldZeg

this MUST have something to do with the initial settings. My former Logitech webcam, well I didn't have to do ANYTHING. I just installed the cd, and I made videos.

this one from Arc Soft, well it was on sale, reduced from $39.99 down to $14.99 the day after Thanksgiving. So it was a good deal right?

but it's so complicated. If I click on the actual icon on my desktop, there's a blank screen where I should be.

When I click on the other icon which says "Video Impressions", well, there I am, staring back and myself and I said "okay, the colors are crisp and clear, I should be able to make a video". the first time, I used this was last month. When I pressed record, it was choppy and jumpy. So I gave up.

So yesterday, as I was recording Alan, it was choppy and jumpy (this is during the recording process). So it was RECORDING VERY SLOWLY.

When I uploaded to youtube, it took 6 minutes. (Nothing takes 6 months, at least my previous logitch didn't do this)

And see how it ame out. Like I recorded it in fast forward.

So I just went back into the Video Impressions and here is what is up on the screen.

I select "create a new video". A screen pops u and I can see myself. So far, so good.

Underneath ME, there are prompts and options that I can choose. I never changed anything.

Here is what is says:
USB VIDEO DEVICE Frame Size 320x 240 FPS 30.0
I understand the USB part of it, but the fram size and fps, I don't know what this is. Should I change these settings.

Then they have Settings Format Input.

Really, this all is so confusing. When I had my logitech, I just clicked "record" and it went fine, but the video was grainy. Here I have this beautiful crisp clear video but it's like a Vaudeville Routing, all fast and it goes by in a zip.

If you have any idea what I am doing wrong, I'd appreciate it.

I'm going to try and find some tutorial that might have come with the cd.

Thanks everybody

Melody

Usually they come with standard usable settings as the default and then the user can tweak other settings to customize. But it should work properly out of the box....

I'm wondering if you just got a lemon..

What if you uninstall it reboot and reinstall it?

If it is still the same after the reinstall - I'd box it back up and exchange or return it.

You might do a web search on the exact name & brand of it for reviews or comments maybe others had the same problem.

support for arc soft-
http://www.arcsoft.com/en-us/custome...asp?id=SUPPORT

they also have lots of free trial downloads or maybe you need to get a patch or updated driver...

From what I see arcsoft only has software.
Does the webcam or packaging say Creative on it?
I think we had a creative webcam that used arcsoft software..

OKAY!!!! It's not the lemon. I'M THE LEMON. i don't know what I'm doing.

This is a GIGAWARE 1.3 Megapixel Webcam with Mic.

I was going into the wrong icon app. I HAD clicked on WebCam companion 2, which is the one that makes you do capturing and videos. The other thing is EDITING. I don't need that right now. I just want to make videos.

So what did Melody do? melody clicked on the icon Webcam Companion 2. I saw myself staring back at me. I said "aha, this is how I make a video".

I clicked on "record video". The Screen went Blank.

I then saw the word Resoloution and I clicked on that option and boy, there were choices. From 160 X 120 SQVGA, to much higher. I fooled around with various resolutions to finally hit on 320x240 (QVGA)..

it recorded. Some were little boxes on the screen, (and I still have no idea how this will show onyoutube), but I'm getting there.

So I made 3 videos using 3 different resolutions. The minute I went up higher, like to 640, etc, I got all choppy, so my video card doesn't like this setting. I do much better with 320 x 240 QVGA, or 160 x 120 SQVGA (but this presented as a little box on the screen) The better image (they are all crystal clear by the way with perfect sound), well the right one is the 320x240.

Now that I made the video, I want to upload it to youtube. How the heck do I do this. I have the thing up on the screen, I click up top where it says "file", and usually it allows me to save it as SOMETHING , in my My Videos folder, or somewhere on my computer. But when I click on File, my only option is 'Album", or disconnect, or whatever. So if I go to youtube, and I click on the upload option, WHERE DO I FIND THIS VIDEO?

So, once again, the camera is a GIGAWARE Webcam with Mic

Between you and me, I should have stuck with the Logitech. It was grainy, BUT AT LEAST IT WASN'T COMPLICATED.

but I CAN learn, and I WILL learn.

lol Melody

Jo.

I finally found out how to make a video. I changed the resolution to 160 x 120 and it played back just fine. I figured out how to upload to youtube (and don't ask me how I did it because I'll never remember), but have a good laugh.
Take a look.

I'm still on fast forward.

I think I'd just return or exchange it.. or have the store set it up and see if it works the same way for them...
something isn't right.

did you uninstall it and just use the default settings ?

Can't return it. It's been too long. Why would un-installing and re-installing it make it work differently?

I mean, do you really think that might work?

I'll give it a try tomorow. Got to go make dinner.

Thank you very much

how long have you had it??
it should be under some sort of warranty even if the store won't do anything.
It could be defective, it should work decently right out of the box.

a couple of the reviews on that one link said they had to reinstall it quite often because it would stop working..
It's worth a try.

Or if you know anyone else with a computer maybe ask to try it on theirs to see if it uploads in fast forward too, then you would know it is the cam, and not anything you changed.
