Default Keep On Moving Club: November 2009

MS sometimes makes it hard to keep moving, exercising, stretching, so we do less and less. Before long, its not just MS that interferes with our mobility and health, its also atrophy of muscle causing more balance problems and more muscle weakness.

So, we started a Club to support and encourage us to keep moving --You use it or you lose it! So, what do you do-- do you stretch, do you walk, swim, aquacise, isometrics, lift free weights, Wii,calisthenics? Please join the club.
!

I swim a mile a day. In 2004, I was so weak, I could not walk across a room. Now I swim a mile every single day and I do free weights twice weekly to help with osteoporosis prevention. Cherie (clinical1) was able to stop using her w/c after she religiously worked on a pool based stretch/exercise routine daily.

What do you do?

Well I fell off the wagon for a couple of weeks because work got so hectic, but I got back on this morning. My wife and I rode in the "tour de donut", which is a 30 mile bike race/ride, where you get 5 mins taken off of your finish time for every donut you eat at one of the two break points. I only ate 4 donuts (they were like little lead bricks in my stomach), but I averaged almost 17.3 mph for ~30 miles and finished with a ride time of 1 hour and 48 mins.

I did all my stretches and exercise, in readiness for my rowdy Grandkid's visit, today..

A little too chilly for swimming, here in Ohio, BBS.. Glad you got your mile in..

I've been raking the leaves but was a little sad today when I realized almost all of the leaves have fallen. Now I need to find another form of exercise to replace the raking. I go for walks but that will end soon too. I do go to the YMCA so maybe I'll throw in some DVD's to keep me moving!

hi ...

I keep moving by sitting (when I'm sewing at the sewing machine) ... then I'm cutting/trimming/ironing/pressing (standing) ... then, I sit while I hand sew, paint watercolor or crochet ..

sometimes, I feel like the fidgety-kid in church .. just can't sit still ... then, I stand for awhile .. .then I sit ..

OH, I did climb a chair to change the ceiling kitchen lightbulb today!!

and I learned some 'samari' movements from off of Dr Oz today - I didn't have a sword ... so I used a wooden dowel ...

welcome Vonn: I love the samarii idea

txbatman: I was wondering where you were! welcome back to the bike :

Sally: Nice job on the stretching

karousel: Let us know what you come up with. Why is walking out now? Are you in a w/c? Or in a flare? Or too much snow? Curious minds want to know :0

I swam my mile today. Florida is still having very warm weather--87 today in fact.

Woo-hoo! Legs are feeling better now that I'm off of Crestor...went to work out today!
I did 25 min. on the elliptical, 30 min. of weight training, and then went home and took my furbaby for a 30 min walk.

I'm having surgery on 11/16, and dr. said I can't do any exercise that will involve putting pressure on the pelvic floor muscles for 3 mos...do you have any ideas for how I can work out without using the abs? I think even swimming will put pressure on the pelvic floor muscles.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated

Let's see. I rode my bike up and down the road a bit a few saturdays ago. Major soreness for 2 days. I'd say I rode maybe 1/4 mile. Pathetic...

I played 18 holes of golf a couple weeks ago. I was pretty sore for a few days after that. The course was wet so it was cart path only and Tennessee has hills.

I'm really out of shape. I had bypass surgery in 3/08 and have been pretty scared to move much since. Not heart bypass - left common iliac artery, right common iliac artery and abdominal aortic artery bypass. I had open hearty surgery to repair a tear in the ascending aortic artery at the heart in 1/04.

I still walk quite a bit. At least a few miles a day.

well, I'll be 'moving' ... really MOVING .. so, I've started to pack in an organized manner!!

will be moving 'totes' to my car to take up to storage ... and hopefully be able to land an apartment to start REALLY moving the month of December ..

probably do most of the shuffle myself .. until I get to the trunks and bed frame ..
