OK, I ordered a Tens Unit this morning.
I had thought they were RX only so I hadn't really looked into getting one until now.

I don't think it can "fix" anything, Greenjeans, it just messes up the pain signals somehow so the pain is relieved for a few days. I don't imagine it works on every type of pain, but it did (for me) on the sciatica (which is generally due to referred pain from the lower back). Cherie

I talked to my PT about this just an hour ago. He said that it's similar to self medication, or Pain Medication. That it releases the endorphines and masks the problem. He said he prefer's to address the symptoms and try to repair the problem, rather than mask the problem. He also said that to him, it's more of a last resort, after all other things have been tried, INCLUDING back surgery. My take is that I agree with him. I don't want to mask pain, I want it to go away and have normal life back. EDIT: To withdrawl my personal problem <grin>

One of the ingredients is Tylenol (Acetaminophen) I'm not exactly what ingredient is the one that seems to work on the ON pain. I was really surprised that it worked. The optho wasnt sure it would work on the pain, but he suggested that I try it anyways, since the first time I had ON, nothing at all touched the pain, and what they did give me made me sick. He didnt want to Rx something that would just make me sick. I already had the Midrin Rx-ed to me by the neuro, so I tried it. I dont know if it'll work the next time I have ON (there better not be a next time!) but I'll try it again. I dont know if the fact that my ON was relatively mild this time compared to the first time had anything to do with it. It does work extremely well on migraines...at least mine. It can be habit forming (I dont think I have a habit, it takes me about 5 or 6 months to get thru a 50 capsule bottle) http://www.webmd.com/drugs/drug-6603...me=MIDRIN+Oral Last summer, I was told they werent making it any more, but I got a Rx for what I thought was another med, it looked different, but it was still the same Midrin that I love. When I got a refill last week, it was back to the original color capsules. So, I guess they havent discontinued it. (I googled it. It was recalled last year because it apparently somehow accidentally got some of another medication in it. It was also recalled once last year because the pills were brittle and breaking) Midrin has been around a long time. (probably more than 20yrs) I'd be willing to bet it's available in Australia, but maybe it's under another name? |

I agree that treating the problem of the pain is the best way to deal with it but this only works when you have a Dr willing to help you find the source of the pain. I'm hoping the Tens Unit will be enough to help me so I don't need the pain pills, I take a lot of supplements every day that help me a lot and I don't want to add any RX's if I don't have to. By the way everyone, I started this thread to find out what pain pills are out there that don't have Hydrocodone or Codeine in it and I still don't know of any. ![]()

Oxycodone ,Drugs.com says "Do NOT use Oxycodone if: you are allergic to any ingredient in Oxycodone or any other oxycodone- or morphine-related medicine (eg, codeine)".
