ok that makes sense i think thats probably why because im having a harder time reading and stuff like that but we dont have the neuro psych results so we'll see what they say after that. thanks

Default Other benefits of speech therapy

Thanks for the prompt Nicollissa.

I'd forgotten that, in addition to my difficulty talking, my speech therapist is helping me with other problems. For example, I need a prompt to help me remember things like basic math, map reading, etc... I'll always need a prompt, but she's teaching me ways to gain access faster. She's also trying to make it so I can learn new things. We go through instructions one by one, inventing picture icons as we go. At the end, I can look at the pictures and do reasonably well at playing the game or running the appliance. Faced just with a page of written instructions, I'm hopeless. She's also helping me to concentrate and deal with distraction.

So, in short, there's lots of things a speech therapist can help you with. Mine is among my most useful clinicians.

Default Blood

Hey Soccer,

The brain doesn't just control or intellect and emotions, it controls everything. They may be running the blood panel to look for hormonal imbalance, etc...

ok that sounds good. i think it would be nice to do that because i notice a lot of things that are so much more difficult now then berfore i got the injury. i dont know when wed start that but hopefully soon because im supposed to start trying to do some homework with a tutor soon maybe next week and i definitely need help with some of the things you said. hopefully i can do that probably after we get the neuro psych results which will hopeully be soon. thanks

Default OK, like is sports? Just don't try too hard at first.

Go with a kind of 'interval training' philosophy for the duration?
THIS is a time when turtles win the races after a time? Go slow and steady.
Hang in there, keep your patience under reins and work hard albeit slowly? You will ultimately come out of this super good.
Know? That at times? It really DOES feel GOOD to thunk your head against a wall? Feels SOOO good when ya stop? But, for you, please be cautious?
It sounds as if you have a very bright mind, and believe me, those concussions can really hurt you! A good mind is a terrible thing to lose! As long as we each have our minds and mobility? We are blessed and need to use our blessings such as they are to the fullest!
While you are likely itching to move? Follow Docs' advices! To the letter. Get tested, be careful until you get an all-clear, please.
Heed warnings, and be careful=you are now to assume you are fragile glass, untill other notifications. Got that!
's heaps of hope and simply, I hope, get better and on with things! It just mite take a tad more time than you'd like? But, the options aren't acceptable..

Wanted to add some thanks for the other thoughts on Speech therapy.

I think you gave me a reason Derrick needs private or outside the
school speech therapy.
