Just got a call from my Dr. and she says that she is sorry and that she found out she was giving me to much Lyrica according to the Lyrica guidelines here in Canada. As of yesterday I was taking 1200mg a day and the guidelines says no more then 600 mg a day. So she wants me to drop my intake starting today to 600mg for two to three days so my body gets used to the new dosage. Hell I can feel the withdrawl symptons after missing one dosage. I can only imagine what it will be like after missing 600mg for a few days. She said to take a few more hydromorphone pills to deal with the extra pain if any. Then she says she is putting me on gabapentine at 600mg a day and then will increase after that if necessary. She says with this drug she is able to increase the dosage quite high.
From what I have read here Gabapentine does not work well as your body gets use of the dosage real quick and needs to be increased to help with the pain. This does not seem like a good solution. Just ranting. Thanks realized posted in wrong section and if someone could move to proper forum for me. thanks |

Thank you for the response. Browsed through the links, not much to look forward too. Did not see anyone using a high dosage of lyrica as I was. Heres hoping to no withdrawals at all. Starting my 2nd day of 600mg.

Hi tboots125,
I am glad you have posted! ![]() It's important to feel you can reach out here. I think we'd all have similar concerns if we were in your shoes right now. (I don't see anything that looks like a "rant.") These are "support" forums, where we all ask for, and lend, support. You have simply asked for support, explaining your situation and some concerns. I hope you have (zero to) minimal challenges with your medication changes. To Our Healing, ![]() DejaVu |

I believe that you will have less withdrawal than you think, since you are taking the gabapentin as you reduce the Lyrica.
But do keep in mind that doctors tend to taper people offer very quickly from drugs, too quickly sometimes. 600mg of gabapentin is not worth the same in pain relief as 600mg of Lyrica. Lyrica is far more potent and efficient. So don't hesitate to ask for higher gabapentin if you need it during the taper.

Thank you all for the concerns and words of encouragement. Right now I very light headed and legs are kinda weak. My toes are getting sharp stabbing pains like it was near the beginning. Although I still have my lyrica I will not take any as I do know I have to get the lyrica out of my system.
Actually mrsD I am not taking the gabapentine until I stop the lyrica which I have taken my last dosage tonight. I am not sure if two days of reduced lyrica to none is a good thing (I think not) but have to get off it anyways. Tomorrow I will start the gabapentine at the dosage subscribed and hope it will help with the withdrawal and if necessary will be upping my hydromorphone id need be. And like you said they did leave me wiggle room for increasing the dosage of gabapentine. |

Your doctor made a mistake and is trying to cover her own butt by having you do what I think is a very drastic taper.. When I got off Lyrica, my doc had me taper from a much smaller dose over 2-3 weeks which was still too fast in my experience. Please be very careful and read the posts people here have made about their withdrawal from Lyrica. If you are light headed and weak, that is not good. I hope someone is with you. Do you have enough Lyrica to slow your taper down a bit? Diandra |

I know everyone is different, but I was on 300 daily and when it started to lose effectiveness I was certain I'd have to give up driving if I went up even 50 more mg.
Good luck on your taper. When I tapered off it was rather quick, however it was not that amount. Hydrate, try to find comfortable activities to do. I had trouble sleeping at first, but overall I am sleeping better. Two other changes took place st the same time thst may have played into improved sleep for me as well. Do you reside with someone who can watch for the seizure risk? I apologize if it was addrsssed. Mild temps lead me to do more yard work than wise. It was nice, though.
