Yes it is possible.
Low thyroid leads to a deposition of a mucoid compound in the skin and along the tendons. They can be really helpful. You can wear them at night to protect the carpal tunnel ligaments in your hands. I still use them today, since my pregnancy 30+ yrs ago. But I cannot hold sewing needles yet, for more than 10 minutes...so the potential for me is still there.
