Yes it is possible.

Low thyroid leads to a deposition of a mucoid compound in the skin and along the tendons.
This link shows it in the skin, but it can be deposited deeper...and can cause carpal tunnel.

Have you purchased your wrist splints yet? They can be really helpful. You can wear them at night to protect the carpal tunnel ligaments in your hands. I still use them today, since my pregnancy 30+ yrs ago.
But I cannot hold sewing needles yet, for more than 10 minutes...so the potential for me is still there.
