I have read that the dystrophy part of rsd is the lack of use. I have kept my hand busy, but now my muscles in my rsd limb are sending my pain levels through the roof. Anyone have trouble with muscles? How and what, if any, is a good way to ease muscular pain?

Hi Kathy!
Sadly I have trouble with the muscles. I have it in the right leg, and with use comes awful cramps, and the feeling that the limb is just locked up. I take Lorezapam for the cramps. I actually put the pill under my tongue and let it dissolve. It works pretty quickly like that. For the Frozen limb feeling, or locked up feeling it gets. I use a muscle relaxer, but it doesnt always work. It seems it is when I am relaxing after using the limb is when it wants to act up like this. Found that just letting it rest and recover is about all I can do. Once it is back to what I call normal.....anyone else would be saying cut it off ![]() I get right back to it.......to it being what ever I am doing. I was told by my neuro doc that he was surprised when I came in for the annual visit. He was sure my leg would be the size of my cane, but it isnt. He held my cane up and said, Quote:
I sure hope your pain eases. The cramp pain is pretty hard to endure. I wish I knew exactly what to tell you ![]()

Unfortunately yes, yes I do have trouble with muscles in several ways. My legs tend to have lots of spasms. Muscle relaxers and baths help. Activity but not overdoing it. My original site was in my leg but now I have it in my dominate arm and really bad. I have it in both arms and lots of other places but the muscle pain in my right arm just above and below my elbow is terrible. My upper back muscles (shoulders) is also really bad. Again, I've been using muscle relaxers, but also Veteran Gel, Lidocaine Patches help, but just recently I've had to add a daily tramadol or oxycodone and really grit my teeth while I try and push through the pain of moving my arm. It really does suck. I'm so sorry that you too are dealing with this. ![]()

Hi Kathy! Yes we are at great risk for muscle wasting from lack of use. We must keep moving! Pace your activities. Daily stretching and gentle weight bearing exercisr are essential for maintaing muscle tone. Yes, I get constant muscle twitching that can be maddening. Warm epsom salt bath, heating pad, gentle massage, and sometimes I'll take clonazepam. Muscle relaxants don't seem to do much. Sometimes I also get charley-horse muscle spasm in my calf muscle. Muscle contracts really hard and I have to get up from bed and stand flat footed to end it.

Hey Lottie! me too.. in my legs. These sucks and will have you moving quickly. I think the muscle relaxant makes a difference. Some seem to do little while others do more but knock you on your butt. Just my opinion, or the way they've worked for me. Seems like sometimes they help, but not always. Hope you're recovering okay from your trip! ![]()

Hey Vrae! What muscle relaxant has worked well for you? Baclofen doesn't seem to do much for me.

Sorry for your pain, and yes yes yes. I actually had a lot of atrophy very soon after RSD 1st started 25 plus yrs ago. I was shocked how fast muscle wasted away having worked out my whole life. I have multiple issues that cause muscle pain but I have not found much I can take that works. Muscle relaxers can be helpful to many people. I started using a TENS unit on other parts of my body for muscle pain and it seems to help a little. I do not use it on my RSD sites as it jacks up my nerves but I wish you luck. Do you take supplements? Have you tried magnesium? that might help a little. |
