Sandy, Barb, and Frank - stay safe guys!
|
Just went down and checked the basement. I pulled all Jim's sports stuff off the floor or anything else that is worth money. I also put my artwork up on the pool table just in case. I checked the sump pumps and they are working overtime. The yards are pooling up and we may be able to go swimming soon.
I live about a block from the lake. That sucker better not overflow! Row row row your boat... |

Yikes, you guys!!! Be careful. I'll be praying for you all.
Renee - How are you doing? Praying that all is OK in your area. Check in when you can. |
Sandy, Frank, Barb, Renee & everyone in the path of the wrath of Ike :rain:....ya'll be careful. Flooding can happen quickly and not give any warning. Please keep tuned into the weather!!
:Sinking: |

ROFL!!! Generally I'm a card carrying member of the stubborn ones. ;) Membership drive is coming up soon too. :D:D |
Just got in from walking the neighborhood with a few neighbors. We found several ditches that were clogged. Why can't people just check the drains when they mow? Not one neighbor came out while several of us dug out their drains. :Bang-Head:
|
i did that first thing because our towns drainage is the back yards they flow down hill all the way down the block to a sewer and as usual I am only one who thinks to clean it, took me all of twenty seconds, gd lazy ......

We have that issue here only it is more than just grass. They have had people dump their garbage as well as furniture  in the washes. When the monsoons hit all this crap gets caught in the drains and more flooding occurs. It is absolutely trashy (no pun intended) for these people to do this. It is raining like crazy where you all are. I think I know understand why my parents moved out of our little house in Cary. lol. When I lived in Cary it was the 1st time I had ever actually seen a tornado. BTW - I don't know where you all are in relation to Cary/Crystal Lake/Fox River Grove but those are the areas I remember going to as a kid. I had friends that lived in those towns. |
I am real close to Dekalb and about an hour south from Rockford. I am about an hour and a half southwest from Cary. I'll take some pics of the flooding on my next walk. :-)
|
trish I am about twenty minutes or so from cary, cool did I know this, cause it is vaguely familiar, lol yes i expect you toremember a conversation we might of had when i first met you lol come on now
|
Frank - I may have mentioned that brief bit of history. lol I only lived there for a couple of years (3rd and 4th grade). I went to a small Catholic school in Cary and some kids from the surrounding area when there as well.
Yes, I lived in Missouri as well. But I never actually saw a tornado when I lived there. Again, I only lived there for about a year (end of 1st grade to 2nd grade). After Cary, it was off to CT for the remainder of my childhood. With 10 kids, my parents moved quite a bit. For the 1st 17 years of my life we moved 6 times, 6 different states.;) |

"How about crisscrossing your massive phallic symbol with mine sometime over a Corona Light?" ROTFLMAO!!!!!! Oh Belize! I'm feeling faint. |
Hey all, here preparing for Ike, went and got some groceries, new batteries, bottled water etc just in case. Have the cars all down in the shop got the lawn furniture tied down. It has been really humid and eerily still and the sky is very funny colored all day, just in the past half hour we have started getting some winds picking up. We are supposed to get at least 10 inches of rain on already saturated ground our two ponds are already at their tops and the bridge down the road doesn't have far to go before it is impassable.
My grandmother is fine, obviously she knows nothing about her home until they are allowed back in. The home she stayed in last night had part of the roof ripped off, some minor flooding and two of the outbuildings are realllllly out buildings, as in they are completely gone, but everyone is ok thank God, I am afraid we will hear in the coming days that many are not. |
technically, it SHOULD say "a Belikin"
Corona isn't sold in Belize (that'd be next-door in Mexico)... Bowen & Bowen Brewery have an almost total monopoly on beer here. sometimes we see canned (ugh!) Heiniken, and sometimes bottles of Red Stripe from Jamaica... for variety, Bowen has a lager (Lighthouse) and a special license to make Guinness |
Good to hear grandma is ok Renee. You guys stay dry and let us know how things go. Ike is headed our way too and we haven't stopped raining yet from a previous storm.
|
Renee, stay safe. Glad to hear your grandma is ok.
|
Thought I would share what we're having for dinner tonight. We're having pinto beans, cornbread, fried chicken and potatoes. YUMMY!
|
Kay - Does your DH know this is the reason YOU wanted to move to Belize? "How about crisscrossing your massive phallic symbol with mine sometime over a Corona Light?" LOL
Leave it to Sandy to notice the man boobs. lol Renee - Glad you checked in. I am glad your Grandma is OK. I will continue to pray for everyone in that area. |

except the cornbread is wrapped in cornhusks (and called bollos) and the chicken is ofttimes stewed. and the potatoes might be cocoyams, a tuber that looks and tastes a lot like potatoes. or there'll be potato salad or cole slaw instead. just plain ol' country cooking around here, so we LOVE to surprise our neighbors with a taste of what WE eat. yesterday some visitors sampled mi esposo's Baba Ghanoush, with homemade pita pockets. :D:eek::D http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Baba_ghanoush they're all... "You did WHAT to that eggplant?":p:cool: |

UPDATE: Dinner got put on hold to talk with doctor and throw a few tantrums. :hissyfit::Bang-Head::ranting: Jim and I will be going back to Hines on Monday. He's accepting the fact he's not getting better. That doctor better let him do outpatient like he said. We talked to him earlier and he seemed like he was on the fence.
|
Be safe everyone! I am thinking of you all!!
Sandy & Jim, hoping for the best! |
We're beginning to see the effects of Ike here in the Springfield area. Windy, raining, thunder and lightening.....it's getting down right nasty out there!:rain:
Sandy, You and Jim are in my prayers. Thinking of you all and hope you're doing well!:) |
I may go wrap myself around the flagpole! LOL It may be the sturdiest thing out there! We're gonna get hammered all night, I'm thinking its a good night for a sleeping pill! Then again it would suck to wake up floating in someones pasture.
