:D our area's flooding has receded, and clean-up has begun... they're pressure-washing home interiors (cement-block houses with concrete floors, yay! easy to clean!) unfortunately, the floodwater's now bedeviling the lowlands, and standing waist-deep in the riverside villages. :eek: and the crop losses are going to be terrible... all those fields of corn and beans, argh! :( the price of animal feed is going to skyrocket, so we're mass-plucking, and reducing our flocks drastically. just finished two, and got two more to do before nappy-time. :rolleyes: |
Hi everyone!
Yes, Vonn, I am at home! I wouldn't dare use my computer at school to check in here at NT:rolleyes:. The great thing about being a prof is the flexible schedule. I do not think I could possibly handle a normal 8 to 5 job. I have not had one since my teens. I do end up working more than 40 hours most weeks, but I do alot of class prep, grading, and research at home. I am really disappointed. My sis and niece may not make it here for the weekend. They are supposed to fly here tomorrow, but Anya woke this morning with a 102 temp. The doctor says it is a nasty virus, and that it could be really uncomfortable for her to fly. They are going to wait and see how she is in the morning. Of course, I do not want her to fly if she is sick, but I was really looking forward to seeing them. Now I will have to wait until Christmas:(. Do you all know that you can get a free credit report on line? There are 3 different credit agencies that have to provide this by law. Just google free credit report. You have to pay a small fee for your score, but you can check everything else if you are not concerned with your score. It is a good way to make sure that there are no incorrrect transactions or accounts that you may want to close as well to see who has been requesting info on you. Credit is supposed to be reeally tight right now, but I still keep getting offers from my credit card companies for low interest consolidation loans, etc. However, I do doubt that anyone could get a loan right now without a regular and established income or collateral. Hope everyone is having a decent day! |
hey Kay ... sorry about the scratching/itching ... it's finally cold enough to freeze out the bug population and bees until spring ...
glad to hear that you are drying out!! |

yes, it FINALLY stopped raining, and flocks of chakalakas and parakeets are swooping and chattering and singing... there's egrets visiting my pond, and the agoutis had BABIES... (they're sort of like a cross between giant squirrels, and rabbits, fun to watch...) saw three of them hopping around this morning... I can hear Great-tail Grackles singing, and Red-Headed woodpeckers, and Kiskadees, and the Ruddy Ground Doves are cleaning up the feeding area after the chickens and ducks are through. so the whole yard is filled with birdsong... it's cool and overcast, with a LEETLE bit of sun peeking out, a perfect day... :D |
hello all
busy busy busy oldest son graced me with his presence and we finished paneling the hall and bed room i still got molding to cut and do finished the last few pieces of tile, and deb painted part of the bathroom and Chris is working on the bedroom I am beyond wiped out, went shopping too in a dazed state, met a gent who is paralyzed from waist down he was robbed and shot, but he and his kid do scrap pick up and I still got a fair amount of metal to scrap here so will give him the business and help him out at same time ya know what was weird, here is a chair bound person, and when he learned I had MS he was so sympathetic, cause his sis passed from it, and even he said he rather have his troubles than mine, we talked for an hour or so, but as I said I am dead on my feet, and done for the day hope you all doing well:hug: Barb sorry about the no visit, at least next week you wont be running a nasty fever, that wouldnt help you any:hug: |

28 years ago, he was car-jacked by three young hitchhikers he'd picked up, north of LA. they stuffed him in his trunk, drove to a remote area, and beat him with chains and a tire iron, and stabbed him a dozen times. then, they left him for dead, a mile off the Ventura Hwy, in the woods. with a punctured lung, and several broken ribs, he crawled over a mile to get help... and then spent a week in the ICU... (he's fine now!) an amazing man, truly, his idea of *FUN* is to run the Western States 100 Mile footrace, that goes from Tahoe to Auburn, through the mountains. finishers get a Silver Hermes Belt Buckle, if they finish within 24 hours. my brother has one, proudly displayed on his mantel. :hug: Daisy May, here's to your friend's EQUAL recovery, and bless her buttons, she's definitely a survivor, like my little (not so little, over 6' tall!) brother. :grouphug: |
Dangit, Frank!:mad: Whattsamattwitchu? *smack* Knock it off and get some rest.:mad:
Hi ya'll, holy cow, I've been calling on apartments down south all afternoon and *gulp* I've started tawkiiiiiiiing? lok.... the-am?, diphthongs and ever-thaaaaaannng's a question? but the folks sho are nahce? ya' knoooow?:eek: Guess I'd best be larnin' how fix up a mess-a collard greens and some buttermilk pie! Hey, Barb, sorry about the disappointment but it sounds like the poor girl is truly ill. :( Oh, free credit report .coms are a rip-off, they use the actual free credit reports from the government, looky here: http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/edu/pubs/cons...dit/cre34.shtm Kayo, have you invested in a wetsuit yet? BodyGlove has some nice ones. ;) If all the feed is lost will they import from international sources or are you all just plain stuck? Von, have you contacted Habitat for Humanity? They may be able to help you secure a loan. Hi, everyone else, I'm pooped and business hours are over and now it's nap time. The sun came out a bit ago, a welcome sight, indeed.:) |

Are you makin' fun of the way we tawk? :D You sure are gonna have to learn a whole new language and way of cooking. And.....you're going to have to start "fixin'" to do things. Not "going to do"....."fixin' to do". And it's dinner (at noon) and supper (in the evening). And you better learn how to cook greens. Do you know what fatback is? And no...........it's not watching me walking away from you!!! You cannot cook any good southern vegetable without it! By the time we're done with it it's not even a veggie anymore!! :D You got alot to learn, girl! Maybe you should get Jeff Foxworthy's "You Might Be A Redneck" book and brush up on your southern terms! BTW....what's a dipthong? |

making fun of how yall talk hmm. do you say the word door with two sylables? if so then I am making fun of yall. I got friends from jacksonville and they say door like this "da, oor"
how are the rates for apts down yonder AMN? fair? |
My brother says "Bless your heart" can mean two things down south. It can mean, "You're so sweet", as in: "You made that for me? Well, bless your heart!" Or it can mean "You're so stupid", as in: "You locked your keys in your car AGAIN? Well, bless your heart!"
|
Thanks Kay! Just got a report on my friend and she's sitting in a chair already!! This, after having rods and screws put in her back Mon. I'm hoping to go see her tomorrow, but it's a 2 hr drive and my other friend can't go w/me now, so I"ll have to see what tomorrow brings.
That's so funny, Kell~ I just told AMN last wkend that I say I'm fixin to go somewhere, etc all the time. And, we "cut" the tv off and when my niece gives us the ''look'', we say oh, she's cuttin her eyes at us. too funny! I'll step up to the plate and larn AMN the proper way to talk. Ain't hard t'all!!! How's everyone doing tonight? I'm pooped, but nothing a good night's rest can't fix. Tomorrow it's going to be like a Spring day and I'm downright giddy about it. Gas here = $2.16 gal.... It's enough to make me wanna dance. *sigh* |
2.16 you just watch, after the election boom it will go right back up. I hope I am wrong on this but, i just dont trust the facist bas^@##'s

"He's such a nerd.....bless his heart." "She's such a b____.....bless her heart." Now, my Mom would have never said that about anybody....but she could make you feel guilty as sin with just a look. Even if you hadn't done anything!! :o |
Gas is $2.25 here for regular. I think Frank is right...it's gonna go up again after the election.

LOL...I never thought about it, but I say "Well, bless your heart" all the time and it also has the same two meanings for me as well...:p;) My neuro appt went very well. He didn't change any meds and said I was doing better than he had expected.:) He told me to keep on doin' what I'm doin' (or not doin'.......like pushing myself past my limits). So, I don't have to see him for another six months unless something else comes up. *crossing fingers* So I'm going to try really hard to pace myself........BTW Frank, from your posts today I think you should be doing the same! (Yes, I'm scolding you!);) Kay, I didn't think about the mosquitos! Take good care of your itchy/scratchies.:hug: Glad the sun is finally peeking through! Barb, sorry your family won't be visiting this weekend.:hug: Sandy, my SIL is in Columbia, MO this week. She's going to see Obama when he's there either today or tomorrow.....I can't remember and I haven't talked to her today. I sooo want to see him in person. I need to call her this evening. DM, I hope your visit today cheers up your friend. What an ordeal she's had to go through. I'll be praying for her.:hug: Trish, I hope you get some relief from the heat soon! Char, let us know how your applesauce turned out. Sounds good! Anyone I missed :hug: to you! |
no wetsuit, Nappy, I don't dive... but I look pretty funneh in my wader boots!
Vonnie, thanks, the itching's over, all praise to Benadryl! but hey, it never gets cold here... (neener neener!) Bluesie, I'm glad your Neuro appt. went well, that's fabulous! Frank, I'm wiped too, we did 2 ducks and 2 chickens, plus all the regular farm chores, so Kay got no nap, wah! gonna sleep GOOD tonight! and yeah, I know what you mean about that w/c user, my best friend Karen had leukemia, and she used to say, "Well, MS is so much worse, because YOU never know WHAT's gonna go tits-up next!" lol, when I helped her move house, back in 2002, we were EACH going, "Hey lemme HELP you with that!" it got pretty funny after a while, but we figured, with each of us running at half-speed, together, we equaled one whole person. :D San, how'd the paint-job turn out? NaeNae, how ARE you? feeling better yet? check in, you KNOW how we big sisters worry, honey! Barb, sorry you don't get to visit, and sorry Anya's under the weather. Kelly, and DM, I don't wanna HEAR about your gas prices, sweetie! Belize Has to Wait for Gas Price Decrease posted (October 24, 2008) World oil prices have been tumbling and today the price was at US$62.00 a barrel, falling more than $40 a barrel in a month, and has more than halved since reaching a record $147.20 in July. So why is regular and premium fuel in Belize still stuck at over BZ$10 a gallon? And when will those falling world oil prices give Belizean consumers some relief at the pump? http://www.7newsbelize.com/sstory.php?nid=12486 the conversion is 2 to one, so yeah, we're paying over FIVE BUCKS a gallon here... (guess I gotta EAT my neener neeners on THAT one, eh?) :D:p:D |
amn ... buttermilk pie is absolutely to die for !!!!
don't forget that no descent southern home would dare to serve you a meal without cornbread ... and ice tea ... and greens ... and onions ... and ... i could go on and on .... oh and you need to learn how to fix grits .... in the south most of the vehicles are trucks and its considered a sin to warsh the mud off your truck too ... and like georgia girl said ... we is always "fixin' " to do this or that ... and if you want one of them fancy carbonated drinks .... just ask fer a coke ... regardless if its a sprite or root beer or any number of drink flavors ... down south its called coke not soda ... not pop ... just coke do not say you guys ... it's yall ... there is sooooo much you will need to learn ... oh and watch out for them thar skitters ... they get to be biggums thar |
Cin make sure you get one of them there new fangled homes or apartments with that new invention down south called indoor plumbing, :rolleyes::eek::rolleyes: lol give deb about ten minutes she will read this and say something to me lol neener neener neener

Glad to hear your appt went well, Tara! 6 months?? woohoo!
Sorry about getting so giddy about our gas $$$$$ , Kay~ I know the other shoe will drop soon. Isure won't miss all those political ads on TV. blech! Have a good evening all and Franko~~~ GO TO BED! *pretty please* |
Down here in Georgia all we have is "sweet tea". Oh, and Coke!! It might taste like Sprite or Dr. Pepper but it's called "Coke".
And I have never heard of buttermilk pie!! Eewwwwww!! I do not like buttermilk so I can't imagine what buttermilk pie must taste like.... :vomit2:. Now I could be wrong......but I steer clear of anything that has the word "buttermilk" in it....except for Ranch dressing. And you're right...nobody says "you guys" here. We'd all be looking for the "guys"!!! :o My boss was from Boston and he used to tease me relentlessly about my accent. :rolleyes: What he didn't realize was that he was the one with the accent....I fit right in here! Drawl and all!! :D |
georgia girl ... buttermilk pie is a sweet custard type of pie ... actaully quite good ... you should try it sometime ...

Sarah, :hug: Glad you're able to talk over things with your hubby. I'd definitely talk to your doc about how you feeling to see if it's any of the meds your on. Depression is a strange creature that can take many forms, and I've seen a variety of those. If you ever need someone to chat with about this, please feel free to PM me. :hug:
~~~~~~~~~ Morning all :) Sorry I wasn't on yesterday, but had a rough night before last. So tired I couldn't think straight :Crazy 2: , so needed a break from the board. Otherwise I'd probably say something wrong, or what I typed wouldn't have made any sense, LOL. :D But doing much better today. :) Lots of projects needing done, and will take one thing at a time. Right now, my project is drinking Coffee :D Hope everyone has a good day. :grouphug: |
Good morning! Guess what I am doing today? I am so excited I may bust a gut! I get to go to my MIL's house to hook up her roof antenna because she doesn't know how. Wish me luck. Last time I was there a major argument broke out. lol
Speaking of the south. My good friend Tom Hunt told me southern girls say "Ya'll come" and northern girls say "You all come." :D Fixin to do something is a common phrase. Fatbacks are used on a daily basis and I do believe they would use it in coffee if they could get away with it. Me? I just add a slice or two of bacon to my pinto beans. ;) And do not forget, duct tape is a major repair item one cannot live without. :p Over and out. :grouphug: WHOOPS! I forgot to tell you! Renee called me yesterday with the worse day. She was having one of those days that make you want to crawl back under the covers. She then calls me back about a half an hour later and tells me she hit a deer! They are all OK but Olivia was crying because she thought the deer was hurt. Awwww. She said the day couldn't get worse and went off to bed. |
:DSarah - I remember when my Gram passed it brought all the emotions back from when I lost DD's twin. I don't think the loss of a child ever goes away and when the feelings are brought back to the surface it starts all over again. Please know if you need to chat I am just a PM away. :hug:
Jenn - sorry to hear you had a rough night but glad things are better and you got some rest. Good Job for listening to your body. You do so much better than I do! Frank, you didn't over due it yesterday did ya? I am heading to my last Algebra Class today :Excited: :Dancing-Chilli: :yahoo: :Noooo: I am not excited! Oh, yeah I am!!! :Dancing-Chilli: Have a great afternoon everyone! Oh, apple sauce came out really good - at least I think it did! I didn't make a lot for I was afraid I would ruin it and I didn't want to waste the good apples. I will probably make some more. DBF would like me to make another Apple Crisp, he has decided he really likes it! :D This is coming from a man who doesn't like desserts! |
morning Sandy, why hook it up ? everything is switching to digital in about 4 months? those will be a thing of the past, or will they still use antenas and then send the signal to a convertor box?
|
oh oh oh char I know this answer, no i mean yes i mean no i didnt:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:
|
Frank, she is getting rid of her cable and has old tv's. She will get a converter box for when the switch takes place.
|
see i always used the scrap apples and bits and pieces of the ones I cut or used to make mine taste just the same as using good apples, i always strain this type of apple sauce to get the seeds and all out
|
Hey Char!
x + 23 = 2x + 45 Solve. :D |
x equals more coffee
