I hear Sally beauty supply (didnt know Sal had her own stores) sells a generic version of this. Will have to compare ingredients and see how they stack up.

The sweet almond mint has a strong mint smell to it. its not my fav.

The Pomagranite has a smell like childrens cough syrup. im not thrilled with it either. Perhaps the lavender will smell better. I am not a perfume kina gal, and I would think for a "all natural" product they would think more about the aroma therapy as well, and not just the junk in it.

I just washed the bug spray off me from my 2 mile walk and all the sweat, so lets see what day 2 brings!

Some of the reviews I've read said the Mint fragrance had a medicinal smell to it...almost like Vicks. Most reviews agreed that the Lavender smelled the best and gave the most body and volume.

I looked on ebay and there is alot of it for sale. There is a new fragrance....Cucumber Aloe......that might be more subtle of a fragrance than the others. And the aloe would be good for dry hair, too.

Wen, and the Sally generic are loaded with silicones, which coat the hair and can cause build up and brittleness over time. You might want to google "no poo" if you want to give up shampoo. I haven't "poo'd" since January and my teen daughter hasn't since March. We just use $1.38 for almost a liter of Suave Naturals conditioner as our cleanser with great results. My daughter even uses a bit extra as a leave-in (she has thick, VERY curly hair).

I googled it......found this: http://1greengeneration.elementsintime.com/?p=365. There are lots of articles about "no poo". I wonder if I could make it through the "transition" phase without giving in to regular shampoo?

WEN is way, way out of my price range. Vinegar and baking soda is more in my price range.

Do you have long hair? Like Kelly, I have long hair past the bottom of my bra line. I need to use a little more shampoo than those with shorter hair. Many times, I only wash my scalp as my hair tends to be on the dry side and then condition all of my hair. I also have thin hair but have lots of it. It damages easily.

I use Dove shampoo. I am semi-gluten free and apparently Dove does not contain any gluten as other shampoos and soaps do. I love it and it does make my hair soft and manageable. However, now that it's summer, my hair is even drier. I may try some of the recipes from Kelly's link. I do use olive oil as a deep conditioning every so often, once a month or so (I also use olive oil with sugar as a good face scrub - leaves your skin so nice and soft and smooth). But maybe I can incorporate it in to the vinegar rinse. Good golly, I'll come out of the shower smelling like salad dressing!

I'm glad you found something that works well for your hair! It is so nice when we do. Keep us updated on how it works over time. Maybe if I hit the lottery, I can get some to try.

I did the transition phase when I was bald with chemo--so I guess I'm a cheater. My dd, however, didn't, and she's 14 and hormonal and did it over spring break and she's just fine. Hair looks really nice.

I tried using Burt's Bees shampoo but didn't like the way it made my hair smell. I can't describe it....but I didn't like it.

The sulfates and other chemicals in shampoo and other hair products do a number on my hands. They really don't seem to bother my scalp but my hands hate the chemicals.

Since I am always at home and really don't go many places on a regular basis I might give the "no-poo" a try. I might not make it, though. If my hair feels the least bit dirty I will cave in and wash it.

I'm like you, Tricia. The cost of the Wen is about my grocery budget for a week!

Wait! What's the transition phase? I must have missed that in some of the reading. What happens to your hair during that time? Guess I need to read up on that before I try it. Oh heck, I don't go anywhere anyhow so trying it won't hurt. lol

My hair is just off my shoulders with curls in it.

One of the issues I am running into is my sensitive scalp. SLS or sodium laryl sulfate or sodium lariyth sulfates really hate me. its the same stuff they use to degrease garage floors. We are all so addicted to lather and foamy stuff that we demand more and more of it, which means more and more chemicals to make that happen. My hair nomally has a nice shine to it, but once my scalp goes sideways it can be really sore, and loads of pimple type things start growing, and become even more sore. I find to use sulfate free products help, but even they have been causing me distress lately.

I admit WEN is pricey! even for me! btw I have been saving about 40% of my weekly budget for food with coupons, so I felt like a treat, and always wanted to try this stuff.

Maybe gluten free is the way to go. I think next time out I will look at Dove products. I didnt realize till recently that shampoo has gluten in it. DD uses dish soap to wash hers, but she is young and age is so forgiving. I have warned her that as she heads towards 30 the damage is going to be excessive and she should consider something else.

That's awesome!!! Plus, it is good to treat yourself. I've seen the infomercials on WEN but knew I couldn't afford it. I had to come up with other options. The olive oil treatments was my 1st line of attack. My hair is long and partially curly/waving and part straight. It's really weird, the older I get the curlier it gets. Anyhow, managing curls is tough.

Again, keep us updated on how it is going. Maybe I will have to start a little "fund" for these kinds of treats. I do save all my change in a bucket but am saving it for emergencies. But, when I save at the grocery store or something like that I could start putting that money aside. Good idea, Dej.
