Hi all hope your day is a good one.
After 18 months things are much better. Almost my old self, But not going there. Just thankful I'm doing ok. I still have disruptive sleep pattern. Bedtime is 10.30 pm. Usually wake up 1.30 am then again 3.30 am then 6 am. I go back to sleep ok but I feel I'm not getting the quality of sleep. This seems to be a regular pattern. Sometime I go through to 4.30am Then 6 am. I rise at 7.30 am Wondered if anyone else suffers with this and if so any suggestions. Thank you all Nine lives , Carole x |

Yes!
I have patchy sleep, and I am sorry to say I have no cure. I wish I did. I do take liquid valerian and liquid melatonin every night, plus some magnesium chloride, and L-trosine (can't spell it) These things can help me relax and get to sleep. When I wake up in the middle of the night and it's not near morning, I have had to learn how not to freak out and just try to rest even if I am not going back to sleep. Sometimes I can relax enough to doze and that is beautiful. Sometimes I do go back to sleep. I've learned to relax from getting acupuncture (community works model) and some meditations -- but honestly I don't know for sure how to meditate. Change of season is really hard on me and my sleep can be really patchy then which is what I am going through now. But eventually it will get better and i will sleep for longer stretches. I tried Zoloft for one night to help with sleep, but its side effects were too strong for me so I gave it up. I have to work more at relaxation. (That is kind of an oxymoron really) But it's true. Maybe I just need to be more mindful about relaxing and letting go of the day. Like you, I am much better from the bad symptoms I had, but sleep was a problem before my car accident and it remains something I still deal with.\ If anyone has any good ideas for meditations or even just how to meditate -- please weigh in.

[SIZE="1"]What happened. I was in a car accident 2-23-2013, and got a mild concussion from it. I had some time off for brain rest, got somewhat better, but slipped into PCS in March 2013. Symptoms I had: dizziness, light and sound sensitivity, fatigue, tinitis, occasional headaches and migraines, Symptoms as of 5--2013: poor sleep, tinitis, some confusion /short term memory blanks, balance. The other symptoms are mostly gone, but flare up if I OVERdo something. Therapy I had: vestibular 3 months in: I could drive more and for longer distances. I felt like a younger, happier version of myself and I feel so blessed to have this feeling. 9 months in and I am working full time. I do get tired, and some sound and light sensitivity from time to time, but mostly I am over most of my symptoms. I pray every day and I m praying for your recovery. Over a year in: I can multi task (limited) and have humor in my life. But when I am tired, I am very tired. |

How do you feel when you wake up ?
If you feel disoriented, you may be having episodes of apnea, stopped breathing. I struggle with Central Sleep Apnea where my brain stops telling my diaphragm to take a breath. Mine is related to an upper neck injury from my head injury. It is not uncommon for episodes of sleep apnea to cause waking up during the night. My best to you.

Hi thank you for replys
Pm I have tried meds and herbal meds but seem to be sensitive to them. I do yoga and have done meditation in groups, which helps me to stay calm and go back to sleep. I wish I could have a cure for you too. Mark, when I wake up I'm quite calm, just annoyed, and I go back to sleep quite easily. Just wish I could sleep right through. I do find its worse when I have over done it during the day Though. I'm having an osteopath treat my neck which seems to be helping. And have just ordered a new norweigen down pillow, which im told will help. Good luck to you too, And thank you for your feed back Carole x |

Hi there
I also wake up a lot since my TBI. At first it was terrible cos I could not read or do anything on my iPad. My injury was back in January this year. I took sleeping pills for 6 months which helped a fair bit. I haven't taken any for two months now. I still wake up a lot, but most times go back to sleep, but it would be nice just to have a full night. Because I'm not working any more it does not seem serious. I'm not sure if I am doing the right thing in stopping sleeping pills but I'm tired of being on help to sleep. I am hoping that as I become more normal in a year or so, my sleep will improve |

Sorry to hear you have sleep problems too. I think you are wise to come off the sleeping pills as I think our bodies start to rely on them. I would only take them if you have a real need. That way you will get sleep when you want it. I try having a warm bath before bed and get nice a d relaxed and don't or can't watch tv much any way. I cut out all stimulation as much as possible. I have a herbal tea to help as well, so I guess it's a matter of time really . I think also its important not to worry about it other wise you will make things worse. I will let you know if my new pillow helps, it's so expensive it had better work, Good luck to you too. Carole x |
