Default medical leave

Hello NT friends,
I've taken medical leave finally like lots of you suggested. Now what to do with this time to make the BEST use of it and commit to healing?

I've seen things like not watching new tv shows and doing nothing stimulating at all to exercising and getting outside daily. So torn, I really want to promote healing. Advice please! I have 7 weeks left.

Meditation? Yoga? Thoughts please? Really don't want to squander this time.

Thanks.

Very good questions.....what due you think you should do?

There is a time to heal, then a time reorganize and learn to coup....

I have been doing yoga and meditation for 7 years...There are different types of yogas and also with meditation.....

Find what resonates with you would be my answer....They cant hurt you.....Could tire you out alot?

I did lots of Hatha yoga and it helped....I do Kundalini now as it really has everything I need to feel better....

No matter what you decide...dont be worried as it takes years of practice to look like the great yogies...I will never get there and most due not...I think the ego stops alot of people from even starting....It did for me....

LilyNYC,

Do anything you can that does not cause symptoms or over-stimulation. Walks, handicrafts to keep your hands and mind busy, gentle exercise,

I agree with avoiding the TV news shows or even talk shows that get 'out there.' i.e. Kathy Lee and Hoda, OK The View, probably not.

Really glad you're taking leave. I've been so so bored with this time so this question is def very helpful.

It's been difficult for me to learn a new hobby because anxiety builds up with each mini failure. That might just be me though. I would suggest taking long long walks if you can. Rewatching a tv show (critically acclaimed dramas have been my thing) might not be too stimulating.

People watching has been interesting too, and often leads to revelations about my own mannerisms and actions. You can do that by chilling at a coffee shop or similar.

Best best of luck! keep us posted on what you find is helpful.

Default Healing help

Yoga Nidra and Feldenkrais excercises...if you have issues with your eyes, look up Seeing Clearly on YouTube Feldenkrais work..super relaxing great for the Brain. Amazing body mind excercises. Also, Yoga Nidra by Bodhi on YouTube is great. You need to calm down your nervous system. I would highly recommend community Accupuncture if you have access to it. Massage also, do things that feel good. Yoga Nidra is amazing. https://youtu.be/eWGEGzPJMcQ
I would recommend everyone on here to try this yoga nidra..it really is powerful stuff.

qtipsq... yet another awesome link, thanks so much. the ted talks and youtube videos you shared previously really resonated with me, in fact I find that I think about things Jane McGonigal said pretty often. Seriously, thanks so much.

I've done accupuncture twice, of course being impatient and wanting immediate results... I haven't personally noticed any changes... or maybe I have and don't attribute them to the impact of accupuncture, but perhaps it's worth another shot.

Thanks, SO much. Definitely going to do yoga nidra first thing in the morning. Turns out there are a bunch of centers close by that do yoga nidra. Do you have any other links/resources that you found helpful?

What you said on previous threads really made sense to me and I'm glad you encouraged it, my HR department was super fast to give FMLA and I wish I'd not been so afraid and done it sooner. Healing really is more important than any job in the world.

I love the people watching idea. I think hanging out at a coffee shop alone and people watching might just be the right kind of be baby steps towards being out in public and not feeling like a complete weirdo. The feeling that everyone knows what's going on inside your head is probably one of the worst feelings ever brought on by PCS.

Thanks!

So glad to hear Lily!!

We're going to overcome this. One day at a time. Every day that goes by that I still feel completely fogged up, I tell myself that that's one less day I have to feel this way. Things have to begin improving at some point. They will for both of us!

You're right! One day at a time, I think that's the hardest part - having to take things slowly and not do things the way we used to do. I'm hoping there will be some sort of positive outcome from this though. Thanks for the good vibes

Yes that would be a great start....

Anyone can do yoga nidra no special cloths, just lay on the ground and listen to the story....If someone cant lay down just being comfortable in a chair works....Its basically a Vedic meditation....

If you try other yoga it will take some getting used to...
