Hi Mari

Yep storms until the end of NOV. Where are you located, and do you know where Anna Maria is? I am putting my home up for sale. The taxes and insurance have skyrockeded. I plan to move inland a bit, to where I can handle both. Love this place, but it is over what I can afford these days since I lost my ability to work. Have you heard of Myakka? Keep in touch and let me know where you are, perhaps we are close enough to visit!!!!!ginnie:hug:

ginnie 10-23-2012 02:55 PM

Oops forgot Mari

Hi once again Mari, I am doing OK. I got off of opiates, and actually am doing better than while on them! Go figure! I started to excersice my ankle and joints they wanted to fuse, NO WAY, I have had enough fusions! I am walking better since I started to do this!!! All is well, and I hope you are OK too. :):D:hug: ginnie

I did not enjoy the pouring rain today.

I was out with Sabrina buying halloween costumes for 3 of my 5 grandkids.

I had to help with one of their costumes. She ran out of money.

Thats okay though. Some years I've had to buy all three.

So not bad.

Rain and Rain. Wind later

Hi,

We are getting lots of rain that will increase today and drag on through Friday.
The wind is supposed to pick up later.

I have to drive to a meeting and then home and then in another direction to see pdoc.
'Drinking tea because I am trying to wake up.

Rain and wind

Bizi,

I tried to do too many errands in between the meeting and the pdoc appt. Now I am running late. I took extra Klonopin to keep from going into anxiety mode about being late.

Maybe I should call in case my appt messes up pdoc's day ---- I did this two weeks ago --- canceled because I was late for him due to doing other things.

OK east coast/ batten down the hatches!

I am praying for all those on the East Coast. A nasty weird storm is coming. Please be careful. I know very well the risk of these storms living on a barrier Island. Keep your eyes on the weather, and lets hope it goes further out to sea. I care about all of you. ginnie

Dmom3005 10-25-2012 10:14 PM

Wow, I don't know what is going on with our gas prices in our area.

Its from 3.00 to 4.00.

Just doesn't make sense.

Donna:grouphug::hug:

Brokenfriend 10-26-2012 12:13 AM

Hey Dmom3005. They seem to have many situations going on where they say that they have to raise the price of gas. I don't believe most of what I hear when it comes to the gasoline industry. BP most definitely lied to everyone during the BP disaster.

I think that the storm is headed up to my state on the mid-Atlantic. Mari. I guess that you are feeling the affects of the storm right now. Please be careful. BF:hug::hug::hug:

Mari 10-26-2012 08:56 AM

Gas prices

Hi,

This is an extimated breakdown of what we pay at the pump:

A 80% of what we pay for gasoline is determined by world crude oil prices;

B 10% is federal and state taxes;

C 5% is refining; and

D 5% is marketing and

Most of what we pay is determined by the global market.

The price usually comes down a little in the winter because the gas stations have a winter blend.

M

Dmom3005 10-26-2012 11:13 AM

Thanks to you both.

They are saying to a degree its because of the election coming up.

So I think I'll just take advantage of it.

And when it comes to BP, I so agree, But right now. I'm not
going to be sorry they are around.

They are who my husband is working for, the company. But not the
contractor. If it wasn't for the company their would be no job for
him right now.

So I'll take it. And just watch were I buy my gas. As he does too.

Donna:grouphug::hug:

waves 10-26-2012 11:35 AM

if you guys saw the gas prices here you'd cough up cows. i'll spare you the math but between euros and liters but it comes out to over $7 / gallon. it's one reason why it's so expensive to own a car here. even some that do don't use it for their daily commute but only for outings or places you can't reach with public transport. i do miss having a car, i tell ya though. i am shocked to hear about those gas prices in the US. my golly. time back, a friend told me it hit 2 bucks in Florida and i coughed up a cow then. my oh my.

============

on a more weathery note, we might get snow soon. it's forecast for elevated areas ... we are in for some cold weather for sure with or without the white fluffy stuff. and the trees are still mostly green with a bit of yellow and a few fallen brown leaves! poor things! they haven't really had a chance to really splay out the reds. :(

Hurricane Sandy

This hurricane,Sandy, may make a turn into my home state. It's a strange storm for this time of year. The weather bureau thinks that it's going to make a sudden left turn into my state, and a cold front is coming in from the West. A TV meteorologist said that in the mountains of my state,we could receive 50"Inches of snow. If that happens,it will be very strange, and memorable. Another one said no accumulations. BF:hug::hug::hug:

Mari 10-28-2012 01:23 AM

Two high tides

Hi, Steve,

There are so many variables at play that the weather forecasters are only making good educated guesses. Maybe by Sunday night or Monday morning they will have a better idea than they do now. My understanding is that they have gotten pretty good at forecasting place but are not all that great at forecasting intensity yet.

We are hearing that the storm might take a while to pass through a place (24 hours I think I heard but I am not sure) -- this causes rain or snow for a loong period of time.
For preparing for hurricanes here they tell us to have enough water and food for a week in case we lose electric power. Do what you can to prepare -- check batteries, get cat food, and so on. I hope that you will be all right.

We have a full moon Monday. That increases the high tides.

M

Thinking of you all dealing with so much bad weather.

We've just been watching live tv from Hawaii on and off for some hours now. Beats me why some people are so fool-hardy and go down the beach to look at a tsunami. What's with that? I admit to going out in torrential rain and watching the electrical storms, but I won't go down the beach to watch for a tsunami in the dark of night. ugh Hopefully all will be well there in the coming hours. Sounds as if it's all smaller than predicted.

I also hope that Hurricane Sandy heads east and fizzles out as some do here from time to time. Just hoping...

Anyway, just wanted to say that I'm thinking of you all east coast, west coast, in the middle and pacific. Keep safe.

ginnie 10-28-2012 07:37 AM

Hi Broken Friend

take care during this storm. I do know what it is like to be facing a bulls eye. This one is going to do something icky, so be prepared. My thoughts and prayers are with you and the whole east coast. I know alot of folks out that way, including my 93 year old Aunt Mary. She has evacuated from Buzzards bay MA. as she sits very close to the water. Let us know how you are doing. ginnie:hug::grouphug:

Theta Z 10-28-2012 10:06 AM

Hello, steve, & family -
As mari said, do prepare with water, food, pet supplies, batteries, lanterns/flashlights, in the event of being w/o electrical power for week to 10 days. If you've a fireplace, hopefully you've got a supply of wood you may want to move into garage for dryness, accessibility.

As we do DownHere in preparation, it's always a good thing ahead of time to have all your underwear & clothing for a week, washcloths, towels, sheets, etc clean & ready.

We DownHere yesterday have only just gotten the cold front from the NNW. No rain involved, just windy. No big deal here; it just dropped our temps from 86 Fri high/60 low; to overnight lows in the 40s. A non-issue. ;)
Thinking of you & your family up there.

Dmom3005 10-28-2012 10:25 AM

Stay safe, and check in when you can.

Will be saying prayers for all that are affected.

It's just been cloudy, and we had sprinkles, and wind. It looks like the line of the storm is going to be a little more North on the map then they thought before. I'm in Virginia. I'm still trying to figure out what the storm is going to do. It's massive out at sea right now. It's a slow mover. Wise County in Virginia has received some snow due to the storms interaction with other weather conditions.

This is one strange storm. It looks like the New Jersey shore line, and New York are going to get clobbered by this storm. I don't know what it's going to do here in Virginia. BF:hug::hug::hug:

Mari 10-28-2012 11:36 PM

Hi,

That is huge. I hope folks are O.K.

M

DiMarie 10-29-2012 12:57 AM

Checking in on the coast residents, it must be getting rough out by he shore.
Late tomorrow it will go right over us. I don't much wind yet, tomorrow will be worse for two days.
The power company had a robo call to let us know the power outages could be a week. We are so forested I am Leary of the trees there is a 50+ ft one by the new home the neighbors were to remove after Irene last year!

At least the county did have to evacuate the entire valley like last years hurricaine Irene,. That must mean the river is very low. But will the levy system that is compromised from Irene be okay.

It will be a lot of rain, but it is the winds, plus being in the mountains, temperature drop could mean snow. We are hearing 6-8 in of rain...the winds here are about 9 mph but an hour away they are 25 mph already.

I can imagine the insurance claims again. Just finished reopening a fire hall and post office on one of my claims, and they are still sitting on top of a stream that floods. It was a ft from the 12 ft ceiling last year. Today I am making chicken soup, and bake a ham. That will keep us going few days. The stove is gas, and the generator will provide heat and keep the refrigerator/ deep freeze on.

This time tomorrow will be in the height. Keep you posted.

The start of winds picking up roar through the mountain trees. They are already weaving like a really stormy day and it has not even hit land yet. Unfortunately turning and coming north over us. I am really concerned now about the trees and power more then rain.

Update tonight if I can.
Di
Edit to add, so many without power, the trees are taking a beating with the wind. The rain ihad not neen the downpour that I expected, until now! We have the generator ready to go, hoping I don't need it.

The main office, co owner of worked called. They are in Baltimore and lost everything but cell phones. I am the only one with power to receive Fax documents on a direct phone line. I am hearing how bad it is compared to Irene, less the rain totals locally. It is just starting to really pelt and whack the house.
Dh has been taking extra work, security over night at a mini mart...not happy about it, nor about being home to take care of the generator if power ..when power goes off.
Older son is next door, but stil wish he was going to be here over night.
We are getting that east side of the storm as it comes up this way. Passing to our west about 60 miles.

Guess that is where this driving rain and sustained winds are coming from. Another day of this, oh my!
Prayers for those in NY,, along the coast, and being hit so hard.

My Noaa alert radio said during the day that there was a blizzard warning. We didn't get it. It's 44 degrees.

I believe that we dodged the bullet. We had a little rain, wind, and drizzle. That's about it.

Getting updates

My little brother in New England and his family are fine. They have a big tree down in the yard.
Reports of cousins on Long Island and in Philly are trickling in. People are O.K. One is without power but went to another family member's place.

I am glad that this storm is over. I hope that people who are waiting to get help have the support that they need.

I took a walk this morning and saw a couple of trees down and branches, big branches down. I don't know when transportation will be restored. I guess they didn't hype this storm. I tried to call my friend in upstate ny but she didn't answer and her answering machine didn't kick in. I hope it is just electricity. I had the radio and tv on so much lately that i refuse to turn it on today. I don't know how long it will take to get transportation back. a lot of people were out walking today. starbucks and dunkin donuts were closed.

Heart Broken about the Storm

Hi,

Tonight I watched some of the last three nights of Rachel Maddow that I had recorded.
I learned that these four states are a big mess:

1. New Jersey -- the whole state -- students are home from school this entire week
2. New York City and Long Island -- subways are flooded so commuting cannot resume -- also, many people are not back in their homes yet
3. Connecticut -- authorities need 48 hours to make an estimate about when electricity will be back -- mayde 10 or more days.
4. West Virginia --- the heavy rain turned into wet snow

I send prayers of guidance for the leaders who are helping people in these and other hard hit places.

M
