Default Dear Bobby,

Now that you are loosing weight, your blood sugars are lower than they were before loosing weight.

So even without knowing your exact blood sugars, you know that you are making progress toward good health.

the Ornish diet is going to help with that, Bobby. i'm sure your GP considered that when she recommended it. You have taken other good steps too, like the dreamfields pasta.

The process of weight loss can affect blood parameters.

you mentioned seeing your GP soon. maybe you can just ask her about that. remind her you don't measure your blood sugar at home. she might want to check you out periodically. but she will know how to keep you safe.

for the monitor, i suspect that, once used to it, taking a glucose reading would be akin to getting on the scale or taking your temp. what if you for now just looked for it without commitment to learning or using it? and maybe limit to 5 mins a day looking?

love,

I'm going to admit that I have the same problem remembering to use my meter. But my problem was something completely different.

I was having problems getting the blood out of my finger. So i was having
to stick my self 3 or 4 times most of the time. So I got to the point that
I would just say what is the point its not going to matter. I'm just
going to get stressed.

But I finally figured out how to get it down to were I didn't have to do
the more than one stick. And then I lost the box of strips I bought. And
didn't have the money to buy a new box. So I used that as a excuse
for two weeks. But I got a new box and started again.

So now well I lost my meter, so I had to go out and buy a new one.
So then my strips disappeared again. So I had to wait again. But then
I said, I'm just losing things. So I did not buy them. So now I have
everything, but I don't like to take it because I hate the sight of blood.

So what I have done is stopped again. But I started again, when a nurse
from the agency that calls about my asthma found out I stopped.

So then I started again. So I am taking it part of the time, because I lost
it again. But I found it again, so I started again. And I have put it up and
will keep taking it.

But my AC1 is taken every 3 months.

poor Donna....boy you must be stressed out with all that...does it do any good to take it....don't you try to be good on your diet or as good as you can be? I have the AC1 taken every three months also and i think my doctor feels that is enough...she knows i am bipolar and she has sympathy for me...she doesn't push me because she knows i can react in all sorts of funny ways...she knows my emotions rule...she didnt nag me about smoking but was so pleased when i stopped smoking myself. she suggested the ornish diet when i asked her about the atkins diet but she knows how about i am about my weight and hasn't nagged me.. she says i am intelligent to know what to do...i told her at my instigation going to a cardiologist and pulmonary doctor and having all those tests out of nerves made me gain 15 pounds .......
Waves I think it is a lot different from getting on a scale. it hurts physically and you have all that stuff you have to deal with. i can't even stand taking my blood pressure. it feels like my blood pressure rises as soon as i start strapping on that gadget. i do the best i can staying on a diabetic protocol so if my sugars aren't right...it will just get me more upset and stressed...it won't prevent anything

Dear Bobby,
I am sorry I sounded so strongly about this...
that is the nurse coming out in me....
You can help lower your blood sugars by reducing the amount of simple carbohydrates and eating more soy proteins if you are not eating any meat....have you tried boca burgers? they are very good! and nutritious.
Natures own has a mini bun product that is low calorie(100) and is very good, many whole grains and fiber. Light Flat out is a tortilla/wrap that is only 90 calories, these are my only bread products that I use.
I switched to fat free organic milk and it tastes delicious one cup has 90 calories.
what is a normal dinner for you?
I switched from mayo to mustard on my sandwiches.
I found a fat free italian salad dressing that I like even cook with it sometimes.
I use bromel spread has fewer calories 1 tablespoon has 45 calories compared to 1 teaspoon of olive oil...having the same calories.
So I can saute anything in that,
I also use chicken broth to simmer food items.
progresso has a good lental soup!
I think that I am stressing you so I am sorry for that....
I want to encourage you...I think you are making great strides, you really are.
keep up the good work.
((((HUGS))))

Default Dear Bobby

oh dear - pain - yes that does sound more stressful than a scale! sorry.

but do give your doc progress reports. or, well, i guess she weighs you automatically when you go in, huh. i used to get weighed in the US... weight temp and bp i think they did. here you are lucky if they look you in the face.

and don't worry - since you see your doc every three months i doubt she will want you to come more often. but keep her posted. she is your ally in this. she will take care of you.

rats i just typed a huge post then lost it...thank you so much for your thoughtful and time consuming post. I don't have simple carbs and that hasn't helped my diabetes. I love progresso soup and was drinking a lot of it because it was tasty and low in calories but it is high in sodium so my bp spiked when measured at the doctors and she told me to stop drinking it.
ornish's diet is only ten percent fat and no chicken beef or fish...i don't like soy or tofu but will try the boca burgers. I just bought a lot of black beans in different varieties and brown basmati rice for protein. i eat a lot of brocolli with butter buds and romaine lettuce with italian dressing. i can eat fruit too. he doesn't limit the quantities.
tonite two friends are taking me out for my birthday at a favorite tex mex place. I think i will try to be good and not drink and have their soup and a side of blacks and rice.
