the Paleo diet

Quote:

Healthy, delicious, and simple, the Paleo Diet is the diet we were designed to eat. If you want to lose weight-up to 75 pounds in six months-or if you want to attain optimal health, The Paleo Diet will work wonders. Dr. Loren Cordain demonstrates how, by eating your fill of satisfying and delicious lean meats and fish, fresh fruits, snacks, and non-starchy vegetables, you can lose weight and prevent and treat heart disease, cancer, osteoporosis, metabolic syndrome, and many other illnesses.
I just ordered this cook book and the guide to acne free skin.
Jeff can attest that I have been dealing with acne and hope that this diet will clear things up for me.
It is about correcting the acid base balance and decreasing the inflamation process.
HOpe they will arrive in a week or 2.
I hate my skin!!!!
If this doesn't work then I am going to a dermatologist!

right now, am starting to give up sugar.
there I said it.
I threw out the rest of the chocolate left over from holidays.
put the cho covered almonds that jeff wants hiden in the cupboard.
I need to follow a gluten free diet. how do I do this and eat at subway every day? I guess I can eat the meats and have a salad with cheese, it will be more expensive.
I also am trying something new. I am stopping the use of all of my acne meds to give my skin a chance to balance itself. so no more products on my face only water. no make up, touching my face at all, not picking at pimples. I am really going to try to keep my hands off of my face.
Wish me luck!

Dear Bizi,

Have you had a blood test for inflammation? Maybe you are fine.
Dermatologists can be good. I suspect that many of them -- like other mdocs -- are not well versed in diet. You need a nutritionist for that it seems.

That book is powerful. Reading it does make a person re-consider their food choices. Versions of the diet vary from each other.
Some say
~dairy is ok in limited amounts
~rice is ok
~fruit is ok in summer
~potatoes ok and so on.

Others say "no" to the above.
You will find your own way. It is essentially low carb, high vegetable, some meat.

I tried the diet for two weeks one time. It did not feel right to me because of the focus on animal products. I did appreciate the book's very strict perspective about eating NO processed foods.
I eat lots of beans and legumes and am not willing to give them up.
Lately I've been incorporating more nuts like walnuts and sliced almonds into my diet in exchange for the beans / legumes.

Have fun, Bizi.

why not just go to a dermatologist? the acne might not be related to diet.
it is great that you are going to try to give up sugar. I think sugar is related to cancer.............besides infection and thus inflammation
good luck

I changed my old pillow case, I wonder how often I should wash it. that could be part of the problem, I sleep on my right side and more than half of my problem is on my right side of my face. I used to rarely wash my pillow case but now see how unhelpful that was. any suggestions on the frequancy that I should wash my pillow case?
I do want to see if by giving my skin a break from harsh chemicals benzol peroxide...if my skin can slear up on its own....heck it is a try. own ancestors did not have all of these chemicals....they also did not eat a bunch of sugar either.
wish me luck!

confused about the "only one pillow case"

i have 2 matching pillow cases per sheet set. they get washed with the sheets which might be 1-2 weeks depending on seasons and other things. but, if for any reason i defer changing the bed, i will still change the pillow cases (i have spares).

if you are aware of using the same side of the pillow mostly can you flip the pillow about half-way between bedding changes. if you use an anatomic pillow - rotate the pillow inside the case so the previously "underside" of the case is facing up.

or do you mean the inner cases? i do have a inner cases (with a zip) inside the sheet-matching ones. those i wash maybe about 1ce every third time i wash the sheets. again depends on seasons and personal conditions.

finally, i change/wash all the bed linens if i have been sick, as soon as i feel discretely better.

I am embarressed to say that I wash my linens infrequantly is a kind way of saying hardly ever so I know that I need to at least wash the pillow case more frequently. I will buy some more and make a concerted effort to wash them regularly now.

Bizi,
It's ok. You can choose a new habit and feel good about yourself.

The pillow case might not be related to your skin concerns.
