Thanks, MrsD.
No, no vitamins yet. And I believe it was my second test, with one in the summer. I'm not sure whether that was lower or higher. I do plan to take the supplements you suggest. I was thinking of a taking a B complex with them all with lunch and then those three that you mention first thing in the morning on an empty stomach. Or would those 3 be enough, you think? I also take Benfotiamine (300 mg) with lunch. The problem I'm having is finding these in brands that are basically pure, say just a cellulose capsule, not with all the fillers and additives. Do you know of any? That would be a huge help. Also, I can only seem to find the Now B6 not the P5P, even on Amazon. Thanks again! Quote:

I have seen NOW be out of stock before.
There was a time in the recent past that a drug company was doing research on P5P for heart disease prevention. It wanted to have the FDA make P5P an RX only product. There were petitions about this which some of us on PN did fill out to prevent. I do suspect the raw material is being held up perhaps? This happened with methylfolate, which Merck holds the patent for making the raw material. At one point they decided RX only and stopped supplying OTC packagers. It was a huge flop and several years later, they started selling to OTC firms again. Solgar was the first to receive the new OTC batch, but today there are other places making it again. I did find this Amazon offer... says 3 in stock: http://www.amazon.com/Now-Foods-P-5-.../dp/B0013OUQCE But iherb is showing out of stock today. If you want B-complex... this one has P5P in it, and methylfolate: B-Right: http://www.amazon.com/Jarrow-Formula...ywords=B-right I use this and many others here do now and in the past... Jarrow was one of the first makers to offer methylcobalamin many years ago. They are a good deal and quality outfit. You could take this and only need then a separate methylB12, and save some money. You are going to have trouble finding pure items with no fillers. Some fillers are added so the ingredients do not clump in the machines.

Of course. So sad! Glad they didn't make it happen.
What do you think of this one? http://www.amazon.com/Pure-Encapsula...ords=b12folate So far with all the ones I take I've managed to only minimally expose myself to fillers and additives. But it takes lots of effort. I'll keep looking and thanks again! Quote:

Yes, you could do both. You need to take both on an empty stomach.

MrsD, you also recommended 50mg P5P (B6), but I worry about this. I know some get neuropathy from as low a dose as 25 and 50 for sure. My neurologist was concerned enough to test me for B6 - I'll find out in a week or two, but I know it didn't cause it, since I wasn't taking any when the symptoms began.
Anyway, if I do take it, should I do so also on an empty stomach, say first thing in the morning, along with the B12 and folate? I'd also be curious what you think of the values of this one: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...&s=hpc&sr=1-11. I want a B complex to take at lunch time, but this has even more B6, B12 and folate, and I especially wouldn't want to take too much B6, and also folate (400 in this and then another 800 in the other one I linked to, the B12Folate). Perhaps I could just take this one and then the B12 separately, but perhaps this would get lost at lunch time. |

The B6 P5P products are typically enteric coated...the quality ones that is.
This means it doesn't dissolve in the stomach, as enteric coatings won't dissolve when acid is present. P5P is not included in the methylation system the way B12 and folic acid are. B6 is used to help reduce homocysteine, which is considered a risk factor for some heart disease. So it is not really essential for MTHFR supplements. It does help with remyelination of nerves, and muscle functions. Pyridoxine in vitamins is converted to P5P in the liver by an enzyme called pyridoxal kinase. You don't really need it at this point, unless your testing shows you are low. 50mg of P5P tablets typically has 35mg of B6 in them. They say 50mg but part of that is the phosphate portion. If it concerns you, just skip it.

Thanks, MrsD. I'll wait to see what my B6 levels are before I add that one to the regimen. If it's low, I'll add it. I should have my test this week or the next.

MrsD, I can't recall if I asked you what you think of this one, or anyone else - in terms of quantities and what, if anything is lacking (i.e., whether there are important B vitamins missing from this B complex):
