Angry Grrrrr.....no more physical therapists!!!!

Hello to all. I went to visit a physical therapist last week and was promptly told that the reason I didn't get better was because I didn't want it badly enough!!! According to her, all I have to do is believe harder that I can get better and I will!!! I wonder if she would have said that to someone with cancer or MS or ALS etc. etc. etc. Why is it that the medical profession treats us as though we have an emotional illness rather than a physical one? It is hard enough living with this pain and the disabling effects of this illness. Having to cope with unkind, insensitive, off the wall comments is just too much. I am done with therapy! Grrrrrr! Hope you all are doing O.K. Jeannie

it amazes me that there are so many insensitive docs & therapists out there! i'm fortunate that i have a good pain doc and a good therapist - my problem is the opposite. i'm treated like i'm fragile because that machine broke while i was using it at therapy. now my therapist is extra cautious and my pain doc is very protective. my surgeon, on the other hand, didn't really have a heart for me, but thankfully i only need to see her one more time.

sorry that you are having such a hard time.

shalom,
angie

Default P.T.

I "fired" mine a long time ago, when she said the RSD would go away and urged me to go into the ice bath....

Default Still hurtin

The PT guy I had was real good, but the excersizes were rough. He told me that after 3 months there was zero improvement so he wanted to work different muscle groups. That was a bad mistake!

After only 4 reps of zero weight my shoulder started to hurt. Since then RSD has spread throughout my body. It was all in the leg until then.

Then the doc said nuthin wrong in shoulder, 2 weeks later she dropped me as a patient. Couldnt ever prove she did it for that reason though

So I hear ya about PT!

I gave up on PT many years ago. My last attempt was at the insistence of the ins co.. But when the idiot decided that 1/2 the time I spent in therapy was to be done walking in a sand pit (I lived in Ocean Beach, for heck's sake, sand is FREE) I just gave up. It always hurt worse after a session, anyway. I was better off walking the beach at home every night, collecting shells, instead of spending several hours on buses and in "therapy".

Default Problems with physical therapy also - makes me worse

I was interested to read the responses to the issue of PT. I have both RSD and Fibro. Tried warm water therapy once for about 8 sessions. It was impossible for me to do all the repetitions they assigned to me. It really made the pain worse. I just did the minimal and as soon as the pain started I stopped. Lucky for me - I "did my own thing" as I would have ended up much worse. Then the next year I tried again. Forget it - same problems with repetitions causing pain. Phys. Ther. just don't understand that our bodies do not "work through" the pain and then /miraculously are pain free. Perhaps it works for some fibro or RSD individuals but my experience with PT or any repetitons ( even typing, walking and steps affects knees, soles of feet, etc. ). I must be so careful not to do anything which is repetitive especially in new muscle areas. Sounds like you had the same problem Alan - sorry about your shoulder experience.
OK I typed too much - now my hands ache.
Best wishes to all
