I suspect the "shocks" are from the metoclopramide-- did they start after you started it?
This drug has some warnings attached to it. It does affect some dopamine and serotonin actions. Google it and you will see. Its use has declined because of side effects. (but it is the only drug that will do what it does now available since Propulsid was withdrawn).

I had these after my knee surgery, very hot, electrical-like impulses that shot through my leg (from the knee down) at lightening speed, especially if I put my foot down & put weight on it.
Then it was discovered that I had nerve damage in that area. Whether this is the same thing you are talking about, I don't know...

I wonder since you said it is at night if some could be from cramping or circulatory issues. I am no doc but I know for me when I am still for a period I take on a different type of pain. Also random though not the exact same is you I will get this feeling in my feet like when you were a kid and if you ran your feet back and forth on the carpert those shock carpet burn feeling if that makes sense. Hope you feel better. Such unpleasant feelings.
Loretta on a side not vicodin does not really help me that much either and I was told that it is not the best for nerve pain/rsd type. I still take it when i am at the point of have to try something but just some thoughts. Hang in there all |

Instead of the Neurontin and Lyrica, have you considered Topamax? I am taking it because I had difficulty tolerating the other two. It doesn't cause the weight gain for most people that Neur & Lyrica cause, most people lose weight (although I, unluckily, have gained a few pounds taking it). I haven't had a migraine since starting Topamax, but my head still hurts a lot of the time. I'm fairly certain that my head pain is from problems with my neck and shoulders, though, and none of my headaches had advanced to the migraine stage like they used to.
Topamax might be worth a try for those of you who have had difficulty with Neurontin and Lyrica and are having trouble with the electrical zaps. I am fairly certain that it is in the same family of meds and works in many of the same ways, just that it is also marketed for migraines. Good luck. I used to get some of the zaps in my left leg (my RSD started in right shoulder, how weird is that?). I hope that you can find a way to make them better. |

I just started the Metoclopramide last Tuesday.
The shocks have been going on for a couple of months. As I said, I had them in my legs but never in my whole body before. Hi Sandy, I have so much trouble with meds, I just try not to take any. I may have tried the Topamax in time. I think I have been on most everything for the RSD in the past 10 years. Thanks, Ada |

No depression meds. Haven't been on any in forever.
I don't know if you understood on that med. I just started it last Tuesday but I have had these shocks for about 2 months. Ada |

Just keep an eye on that drug. It can be problematic for some patients. The zapping type pains, are often seen in Peripheral Neuropathy patients. People come on PN here with descriptions of those now and then.
