Hi everyone! LOL, yesterday was sleeping day for me. Caffine's effect fizzled. Not even Starbuck's could help me. :Wheel:

I took a five hour nap yesterday. Not usual for me, but hubby took it in stride. He was a little worried, but he let me sleep anyways. So far so good this morning. Believe or not, even got some sleep in last night.

Kay, 'tis the season. Stay safe with the storm brewing.

Jmiller, Howdy! Nice to see your post

Sandy, How'd the meeting with Nic's g/f go? Hope she's a nice girl.

Renee, Yesterday was my nothing day, LOL. We all deserve one once in awhile.

Everyone, :grouphug:

SandyC 07-20-2008 10:26 AM

Jenn, she's a sweet girl. They went out and saw Batman last night. She's on the ski team for NIU and seems to have her head on right. Haha!

I think she was taken aback when I said they couldn't sleep together. I meant "sleep together" not necessarily that they couldn't sleep in the same room. I told them they never know when I will walk downstairs! lmao

weegot5kiz 07-20-2008 10:44 AM

i took medication last night didnt hear a thing, deb said it got pretty wild here last night and for me to sleep through it is unheard of, for me

talked to becky on here pm'ed her to make sure she was ok she is ok just sad no one calls her lol just kidding
sorry had to type that

howdy kay do you use peasants in the bread or do they just help make it. is it like a friendship bread or that amish friendship loaf I got one of those from a friend and kept it going for about a year, each week another loaf, give anything to get a starter of that amish friendship sourdough bread again as i said before and I second sandys comment stay safe kay and hubby and duckies and all those other little critters yall got

ahh jaun valdez has graced me with his presence, yeah took me a while to get that lazy loaf up and brewing

sandy I stopped taking baclofen think i was at 25 mg maybe it was 30 bid twice a day, it didnt react well with me:yikes: my legs and my mental state

howdy Jim hope you feel better

again kay be careful

peace all

SandyC 07-20-2008 11:03 AM

Frank what reaction did you have to baclofen? Jim's been taken it forever. lol

barb02 07-20-2008 01:25 PM

Hi everyone! It is too hot here to do much today. I also stayed in yesterday due to the heat. I've been reading and working on one of my syllabi -- only 5 more weeks to the beginning of the semester. I am sort of looking forward to it. It is always fun to teach political science during a presidential election year. I have not taught since last December (was on sabbatical during the Spring semester) so I am hoping I can handle it. I have one class that meets for 2 1/2 hours on Monday afternoons. It is a graduate seminar on the presidency. That will be the toughest.

Sandy, I don't think we had any storms down here last night. It rained a little yesterday morning. I am on just a very low dose of baclofen -- 10 mg 2 X per day. I have taken clonzepam a few times when I was experiencing painful spasms. I have talked to someone that uses mj for their spasms/nerve pain and they sometimes make tea with it. I guess you can google all kinds of recipes if you do not want to smoke it.

Kay -- Sure hope the storm misses you. Be careful!!!

Hi Frank, Jenn, Renee and everyone else!

SandyC 07-20-2008 01:37 PM

Thanks Barb. Jim already uses mj but at a low dose. I think cutting back on his pills may be causing the riff, could be withdrawl, just not sure. It could also be the UTI. I put him back on Tizantidine and it's helping but he falls asleep now.

Vonn07 07-20-2008 02:23 PM

hey Barb ... I love teaching too ... just that I can barely stand during song-service in church without wanting to sit down! I'm still in the 'denial' stage about using a cane ... or be in a w/c ... not sure how to handle it ..

UPDATE
finally was able to get some of my shelving out of storage, washed it in the tub yesterday (what a job!) ... and started putting them together so I can put stuff away and get rid of the 'box' living ..

made a homemade pizza in my stove after church today ... mmmm, good!

have homework to do now .. procrastinated because of the move .. only been here 5 days ... and it's starting to feel like home ...

thought I better get an update so Frank doesn't send out the search party for me! :yikes:

Jenn - I'm still learning about the exhaustion issues ... some days I do 'okay' then there are maybe 2 days in a row - that I can barely lift my arms ...

carrying my coffee (when I walked out to my car to go to church) ... my fingers *fell asleep* ... I didn't spill, but it was hard to wake them up to 'let go' of the coffee cup without spilling!! yow-za!

okay - catch yas later!! ... Kay - watching the hurricane on the Weather Channel ... but, it's easier to get weather updates directly FROM the source, if ya know what I mean, jelly-bean!

hope everyone has a relaxing rest of the day ... will keep you posted .. and get back into the swing of things ... soon!!

jmiller 07-20-2008 02:43 PM

I take 20mg 3x a day, but if I come off of it then spasms start right up.

Kay, stay safe looks as though its going to skim to your north. At least you wont be on the worst side of the storm.

Well now that I had my spankings, Ill just wait for the porch gathering at Mommas.

sabimax 07-20-2008 02:52 PM

Hey all,
I hear ya Vonn on the exhaustion..and balancing how much you can do or not...

I tend to go go go..then hurt hurt hurt....

like last few days, on days off, did golf, and out and about...took longgg walk with stroller and the two kids...pushing the two...then golfed last night...woke today..and my wrists and ankles are in pain..never had issues with my wrists or ankles much before...uggg

suppose to take the two oldest girls out golfing today....still will go..not sure how much I will hit...as my wrists might not want me to....we will see...
might have to talk to dr about pain also..when in in september...going to discuss Neurontin now that been done nursing....the other kind didnt do much for neuro pain...lyrica..didnt help...so not sure neurontin will either...but also want to find out what I can take for regular pain too
hugss to all, sarah

CayoKay 07-20-2008 02:56 PM

Frank, peasant bread is a plain, simple, crusty no-knead bread.

kinda dense, but excellent for ferrying eggs to one's mouth if one has a tendency to JAB one's LIPS with a fork (*blush*) due to spasticity or loss of fine motor control.

my husband is very helpful with these issues, so he assists me a lot in this regard... like, it's also easier for me to use a spoon, held child-fashion in a full-fisted grip, than to handle a fork with it's sharp points, and with me sometimes missing my mouth by a centimeter or two, lol.

here's the recipe and directions:

http://ourbelize.net/phpbb3/viewtopi...09&hilit=bread

Sandy, I was on the same dose of Baclofen as Jim... 30 mg, 3x per day, (total 90 mg)

that was a lot, for me... but I was having unending waves of leg and foot cramps, so it was necessary to control them somehow.

after talking it over with my Neuro, we decided to try reducing it to see if the hideous spasms would stay controlled, or would return...

at this point, I only have the spazzes a half-dozen times a week, and I can grin-and-bear it, rather than taking the Baclofen, which at that dosage sorta made me zombie-like, and added to a rather large weight gain for me (I'm only 5 foot 2, eyes of blue - and got up over 200 lbs, so it was a big issue)

but Jim's taller and more heavily built than me, so the same, or even larger dose may not cause him a problem... (?)

all I can say is, I'm grateful for the Baclofen, and happy it worked when I needed it...

Everybody, they've named the approaching storm DOLLY, and all prayers are appreciated...

looks like the bulk of it will be headed north of us, hopefully...

http://www.wunderground.com/tropical...t.html#a_topad

Vonny, ha ha ha... think of me as the horse's mouth.

Barb, we're putting stuff away anyway, better safe than sorry, but we REALLY hope it misses us too, because the pond, AND the overflow are already FULL, and so are all three of our cisterns, the big 10,000 gallon underground one, and the little 700 and 300 gallon ones too, wow !!

Finny, everything's put away, and now we just relax and wait...

we have plenty of water, food, first-aid kits, kerosene lamps, hand-cranked flashlight, and radio, and some SERIOUS storm shutters built in to our windows, so don't worry about us... it's just the 61 new baby ducklings I fret about a wee bit, and wishing the emergency animal hurricane shelter was finished... it still has no ROOF, so we may be out there tomorrow sliding around in the muddy nursery, catching duckie babies, and bringing them into the house, cheep cheep cheep... LOL !!

right... mainly it's the run-off that'll be the problem, and the roads going to Helena Handbasket, and closure of the ferry (due to high river) so we won't be able to get to the market or feed mill...

since you're being so well-behaved Mr. Miller, I guess I can put this ping-pong paddle away now?

:D:p:D

weegot5kiz 07-20-2008 09:34 PM

thank you kay

Sandy I had legs cramps and shooting leg pains, I think if my memory serves me AMN also had leg pains, we both talked about it on some thread a while ago, a thread about baclofen i think?.... and the baclofen didnt mix with either the lyrica or klonopin, I am on, and I just got real edgy, lets just say fire and vinegar :yikes:

hope you all had a nice weekend i kind of zoned out cant believe its tuesday already lol

Morning all, gotta go into town today and spend some time with Mema, she hasn't met Olivia yet so she will kill me if I don't LOL Hope u all have a good day!

hollym 07-21-2008 08:01 AM

I'm popping in to say hi. I've been reading, but not updating.

Ever feel like you have it all coming at you at once? That's me right now. I've been having one heck of a pity party. I am not at all suicidal and don't believe in that kind of action, but I do understand better why people just give up! It is all just too much right now.

CayoKay 07-21-2008 09:21 AM

I understand, Holly.

JustWeave 07-21-2008 09:26 AM

Looks like everyone is busy as usual and hanging in there okay. I spent an hour outside this morning pulling weeds before getting breakfast. Now I am goofing off here. Plenty of work to be done. Better get back to it. :grouphug:

momXseven 07-21-2008 09:35 AM

Holly  Man do I understand. You'll be in my thoughts.
I even have been pushed to the point that I understand why some mothers snap and hurt there own children. :(

Kay I can't believe how much rain/run off you got. I hope the roads dry up soon so you can get to town.

Frank something I have had good luck with when it comes to leg cramps is ZMA & FibroSleep, between the 2 no leg cramps and I'm able to sleep well (something I don't do on my own).

Vonn glad your feeling at home already.

I know I forgot someone so here's :grouphug: for everyone.

SandyC 07-21-2008 10:35 AM

Hey all! Thanks for all the info on baclofen. Jim's been on it forever so I was curious about what others experienced. He's feeling better today so that's good. I was teasing with Renee last night, in front of Jim of course, that he was being a real $#%^# yesterday! Renee told him he must be going through male-o-pause! lmao

Holly, yes we understand and get it. Those days suck don't they?

Not doing too much today because it's raining again. We sure do need it though. I am also waiting for the people to call back for our new beds. I want them now, lol! Jim didn't sleep at all last night so we are anxious to get them.

Have a great day and :grouphug: to everyone.

weegot5kiz 07-21-2008 10:56 AM

yeah, we've been watching Dolly miss us, and hope that it doesn't get too severe for those in Texas.

mornin' everyone, I feel like &#@* today...

slept lousy, woke at 3 am, head-achy, stomach-achy, crabby, unrested...

then couldn't go back to sleep... argh, it's gonna be one of those days, sigh...

nothing has gone right all morning.....................

tried to count the duckie-hatchlings, and in six tries never got the same count twice... darn darn darn... (47, 52, 54, 48, 51, 48)

spilled the sack of whole-corn feed when I slid in the mud, and on the way back inside, I stubbed my toe on the doormat, fell sideways, and knocked over the mops and brooms, machete, pellet gun, etc.

I got totally slimed by a rotten cabbage when feeding the goats :yuckers:, and shut a rabbit cage door on my finger :ouch:

ran out of lettuce for the geese, and the last of the rabbit pellets is full of moth larvae...

an hour later, I forgot I was wearing a see-through top when I ran outside to stop the geese from harassing a duck (that's when I stepped in a red ant nest, dang it !)

so, I'm out there in this sheer black lace top, shooing the geese away with a broom, right in FRONT of my contractor, and simultaneously trying to stomp all the ants off my feet... sheesh !! hoppin' around yelling like a deranged lunatic.

oh, and we got invaded by some insects last night (which hubby was whacking on the tile floor with the fly swatter), so today I was sweeping all the bug bodies out, and THEN, I knocked over the kitty's water dish... dang it all...

*another* mess to clean up !!

I'm just going to go back to bed, and try to start this day over...

Vonn07 07-21-2008 12:20 PM

sorry about all your clean-up, Kay ... that's gotta be discouaging ... sending some clean-up angels to help you!! :Girl(angel-flying):

still unpacking boxes .. but hanging in with school - into the 3rd week .. .and As still .. whew!

just had lunch with my neighbors (the county program .. $3.50 a day) .. I'm eating with them - otherwise I don't eat a decent meal .. just munch and snack ... and I 'get out' ...

now going to make some noise and hang some pix and STUFF ... and organize the boxes ... getting to the stuff that I had hanging on pegboards ..

will work on finishing the quilt too .. did I tell you that my cousin is going to give me her wedding dress (from the 70s) to make a quilt for her out of it .. what a grand idea!! she was going to toss it or donate it to goodwill ... their anniversary is in February ...

OH -- will be getting the totes made up to .. AND getting a digital so I can get things posted ...

have a great day ever-body!!

FinLady 07-21-2008 12:25 PM

Hi all :) Doing much, much better today. I guess the severe fatigue I had the past couple of days reminded me just how bad it can get. Now I won't sweat the small stuff as much, LOL.

Of course, my luck is pretty bad. I wouldn't buy a lotto ticket if you gave it to me right now. :D My cupboard is BARE!!! I have to go grochery shopping. it's hot and storms are on the horizon. yuck, ick, etc. Need to learn to plan ahead, LOL. Hubby equates grochery shopping with pulling teeth, so I'm going in a little bit. At least they have air conditioning and carts I can lean on. :)

:grouphug: Stay safe and cool all.

SandyC 07-21-2008 12:54 PM

Kay, oh my woman! I think you need to go back to sleep too and start all over.

Seems many of you are sufferring this week and Jim is right along there with you all. He is so tired I am thinking the humidity and stress of life in general is the culprit. DANG MS! I say we gather around and beat the sheets out of MS. Who's with me?

weegot5kiz 07-21-2008 01:07 PM

wow kay usually i am exhausted after reading your post, today i am sore and exhausted, hope the rest of the day goes better:hug: ( did the contractor give you a better price after your dance) sorry could not refuse, take it easy and rest and realign your chi, karma, mojo, whatever you want to call it

Fin glad to hear you are feeling better, yeah this humidity sucketh mucheth, lol wont even say dont over do it:hug:

barb02 07-21-2008 01:26 PM

Holly, I am sorry you are having a rough time right now. I know how you are feeling because I have been there at times too. Try to take it easy and I hope things improve soon.

Kay, Big  Or as my niece would say, "Oh man!" I think a long nap is needed.

I did not know that baclofen could cause wight gain too. I take a low dose of it and neurontin. Do they cause weight gain because of increased hunger or water retention?

Vonn, Glad you are settling in. What kind of classes are you taking?

Jenn, Glad you are feeling better! Have fun at the grocery store:rolleyes:

Sandy, I hope your beds come soon and that the two of you get a decent night's sleep. It is hot and sunny here right now although it did get dark and thunder a few hours ago.

Hi Frank, Renee, Tricia, Soxmom, Wiz and everyone else!:Wave-Hello:

I finished one syllabus this morning and have completed about 90% of another. I just need to check on some journal articles. I know -- big yawn!;)
I am now off to take a "brief" nap.:OuttaHere:

jmiller 07-21-2008 01:49 PM

Dont kill the bugs Kay, they are a good source of protein. Never know when the next hurricane comes, you may need some food.

SandyC 07-21-2008 02:18 PM

Barb, we think the gabapentin caused Jim's weight gain. He's been on baclofen so long and we never really noticed a weight gain with it. Since Jim has weened off gabapentin we are convinced he's lost weight already. He used to have what we called a shelf on his tummy to place things on. It's gone! Whoohoo! lol

We're down to only two a day. Jim wants to get off completely but like I told him, if he starts to have symptoms we are going to go back to where that started. Either way, cutting down from 9 a day to 2 a day is a good thing.

momXseven 07-21-2008 02:29 PM

Sandy, I was on gabapentin after Lyaric, I gained 60 pounds with Lyaric in 6 months and than started on the gabapentin and gained a few more pounds, I was only on it for 6-7 weeks. That was about 3 years ago and I finally lost the last of the weight in Jan. of this year.

sabimax 07-21-2008 03:24 PM

Holly HUGSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS

Sandy, yes think humidity and heat of summer is getting to all I bet....getting to me...(not sure how I will do in florida for two weeks soon hmmmm) hugsss

Vonn, that sounds wonderful the quilt from wedding gown idea...I had someone cut my dress up to make a baptism gown for the girls....happy unpacking to you hun...hugss

Cayo, sorry your day was wierd at first..hope your new morning was better after a nap...hugsss

Frank, keep smiling

Hugss to all, sorry baby calling me...hugs to the rest...sarah

FinLady 07-21-2008 03:29 PM

Gabapentin kept me from losing too much weight. During the DX process, I lost 40 lbs. Stopped once I started taking it, so there might be something about the weight gain thing.

Made it through the store. :) Broke down and got some ice cream while I was there, so we have dessert for tonight. :D

No storms yet, but a cloudy hot day still. I'm with Sandy about beating the sheets out of MS. Even with A/C, it's like the bod knows it's icky outside.

Got some ribs roasting in the oven for dinner. I got done everything on my small to do list, so will be resting for the rest of the evening. :trampoline:

thanks, dear...

I'm up now, and guess all the "accidents" this am were from being sick... just a little flu, but y'all know how THAT is, when added to the fun of MS... hee hee hee...

makes the eyes weird, so, the cage door, and not seeing the ant nest... and didn't see the cabbage I grabbed was going nuclear.

makes the foot drop, hence the stubbed toe, the mud sliding, and tripping over the low-flying door mat.

and makes one *forgetful* (forgot that Amelio would be here early for the concrete slab pour at 6:30 am, AND forgot I was not decently dressed)

Barb, I think I gained all the weight because 90 mg of Baclofen made me more sedentary, but I didn't cut back on food intake to match...

I was *also* taking wellbutrin (depression), imipramine (urinary problems) butalbital (headaches) and lorazepam (anxiety).

so, it could have been any ONE of the five meds, or something they all do in a synergistic combination dance ??

anywayze, I turned into a total sloth, and seriously packed on some poundage... :o

naw, Amelio's more a T & M kinda guy... (that means TIME and MATERIALS, naughty kiddies!) it's just that in this country, women are really modest in dress... and besides, one doesn't GO outside without being covered, 'cause of all the bugs!

delicious swarming-flying termites, YUMMY !!

Lauren Hutton: Eating Termites

"I was hanging out with this tribe in the interior of the Congo," Lauren Hutton once recalled. "This girl and I were tripping along one night in the dark jungle. She looked up at me and held out this swarming hand of bugs. She grabbed one, chewed it, looked at her hand, then looked at me. And so, being from Charleston and having good manners, I took it.

"Eating termites in the Congo is not like eating chocolate-covered ants," Hutton explained. "They're big guys. Two inches long, easy, and half an inch thick. They have big wings. Two pair. You use the wings as chopsticks. They have four legs, with grappling hooks on every foot that they use to hook on to wood. Sharp. You bite the head as he's coming at you, which stops him from breaking up your lips with those hooks. They're delicious — taste like Brazil nuts — though I didn't quite taste 'em until the seventh one because I was stoned on pygmy white lightning at the time..."

barb02 07-21-2008 03:45 PM

I lost 35 pounds through the dx process; 10 of it on one week while on steriods. But then I started to gain it back after being on neurontin a few months. And I gradually gained it all back, but I was eating whatever I wanted. I do not want to quit taking it because it has helped me with the nerve pain. I guess I will just have to be happy with the slow weight loss I am experiencing on Weight Watchers.

FinLady 07-21-2008 03:46 PM

Kay, I had to laugh at the termite thing. :D A friend of the family's went over seas once and brought back a box of chocolate covered ants. Kinda tastes like peanuts, but don't think I'll ever try them again unless I'm literally starving.

barb02 07-21-2008 03:47 PM

Speaking of dieting, chocolate covered ants sound yummy to me! LOL!

did you see the CSI New York episode where a feast was prepared of various bugs ??

weegot5kiz 07-21-2008 04:01 PM

this weight issue bites, I have been on steroids too many times have gained and lost 20 lbs about 6 times in last 3 yrs, but the steroids baclofen and lyrica, and klonopin, all of those helped me gain it all back plus extra, I did call copaxone distributers and talk to them about weight gain they said no, they didnt and answer the hair issue as firmly

NaeNae 07-21-2008 04:55 PM

5 years of IV steroids and Neurontin have made me balloon up like a goodyear blimp....no joke. In fact I heard Jose Canseco was writing a book about me!
