Good Morning all,
good to see everyone up and going...

hugss all

well dont know if I said anything, but the funeral was last week, she is being creamated, and bro in law then is having the burial services aroudn Thanksgiving...dont think he was ready to do all at once..maybe...

I Dont think I will make that trip....I had really mourned thru the services, and at home here... also work is hard to leave as the two days after Thanksgiving our the busiest....(in walmart store)...

I am however thinking of a January trip..if snow permits....my sister was way into judging at gymnastics..meets in MI...and a rules coordinator...very involved...well in Januaury...one gymnastics meet has been chosen to be in HONOR of my sister..all proceeds going to a cancer center....that is so cool. Mark sent info to us..in case any family want to get there for it....not sure what town....but find out later on...

so I might focus on that as a trip instead...something positive....

anyhow..gotta run..Maddie has school this morning....my mom is coming with us....hugsss all, sarah

Kitty 10-16-2008 08:55 AM

Good Morning everyone!

Sarah, I think that's a wonderful way to remember your sister. A positive remembrance of a wonderful person.

Well, I stayed up late last night to watch the debate. Then, of course, the news media had to repeat every last word and dissect it all afterwards.....:rolleyes: So, I was up until around 1:30 AM. Was woken up at 2 AM because the cats thought they found a bug underneath the couch. I never located anything but they stood guard all night under the coffee table. So where are they now?? Yep....both are asleep on my bed.

I'm going to start a pot of homemade vegetable beef soup here in a little while. I have a bunch of frozen leftover veggies to go into it.

The weather is supposed to cool off in a big way this weekend. I don't think we're supposed to get out of the 60's either Saturday or Sunday. Rain is in the forecast for tomorrow but we need it.

So who's got big plans this weekend? I don't....:(.

weegot5kiz 10-16-2008 09:39 AM

CayoKay 10-16-2008 09:43 AM

rise and shine, sleepyheads !!

it's another rainy Thursday in the rainforest, and I'm waiting for the rain to cease & desist so I can distribute breakfast to my critters.

been thinking I might need a tarped or roofed area for feeding time if this keeps up!

looks like there's a massive Tropical Depression headed our way, they're predicting FIFTEEN MORE INCHES of RAIN, yikes !!

:eek::(:eek:

or we may just float away on a rolling tide of MUD at this rate...

NEMO Issues Tropical Storm Watch for Belize's Southern Coast

posted (October 14, 2008)

NEMO has issues a tropical storm watch for Belize City down to southern Belize at its border with Guatemala. This as tropical depression number 16 slowly churns towards the coast of the Nicaragua-Honduras border. That puts it right in Belize’s back yard. The latest advisory from the National Hurricane Center has it moving northwest a 6 miles per hour with wind speeds of 30 miles per hour. The really bad news is that if it stays on its current track, it could be a tropical storm by tomorrow. For those in the south, that could mean evacuations within the next two days.

http://www.7newsbelize.com/sstory.php?nid=12385

:rain::Oops::rain:

luckily, we're only going to get the outer edges of this puppy, unless it shifts further northward.

HUGS to Kell, hang in there honey!!!

:hug::grouphug::hug:

Kitty 10-16-2008 09:57 AM

Geeze, Kay....please be careful! At least you got your storm shelter built. But how on earth would you get all those critters in there? I hope this storm takes a turn and leaves ya'll alone!

I saw your newest pics on your Wok Wok thread and they are so cute. :)

I haven't cooked my chicken yet but your recipe with the fruit sounds yummy. I have a big pot of veggie beef soup cooking now and the house smells divine.........

barb02 10-16-2008 10:07 AM

Good Mornng! I have a few minutes before meeting with 2 grad students so I thought I would write a quick message. I also stayed up watching the debates last night, but forced myself to go to bed after about 1/2 hour of commentary.

My head is still driving me crazy, but my leg seems a bit better today.

Frank, Take care of yourself. We miss you, but understand why you have not been on as much.

Shar , Sending out prayers for your dad.

Jenn, Hope you are able to particpate in the art show.

Kay, :hug:Be careful!!! Retiring is not an option for me. Plus, I really do not want to stop teaching. I do enjoY it most days. I just need to figure out how to cut down on meetings, etc.

I do not qualify for SSDI as I have always taught in state universities. I do have LTD through the state if I had to take it before I retire, but could not really live on it. The ealiest I could retire is at 55 (january 2012), but I would only receive about 50% of my income (they do an average of the last 4 years). Fortunately unless the State of Illinois goes bankrupt, my pension is protected. And even then I think it would be protected. Prior to MS, my goal was to teach unitl I am 62 -- which would be 30 years. Now, I figure I just have to take things day by day. I am lucky in that I have over a year of accumulated sick leave. But I hate to take it as it hurts the students (we do not have substitute teachers like they do in k-12). So far I have only missed one day this semester, and it was to attend a funeral. Also if I do not use the sick leave, part of it is added onto my years of service and part of it is compensated.

Sory for the long boring explanation everyone.

Hope you all are having a decent day!

Kitty 10-16-2008 10:17 AM

Frank.....please take care of yourself - I worry about you and your lungs. You don't want pneumonia!! Do you smoke? You know where I'm going with that question if you do.....;)!!

We miss you but understand why you need to rest. Take care. :hug:

SandyC 10-16-2008 11:03 AM

If anyone saw the helicopter crash on tv today here in Illinois please pray for the families. It was carrying a one year old child and the crew. The helicopter took off from the hospital here in my area. So sad.

Today I am going to get to that garage. I didn't do it yesterday.

:grouphug: to everyone.

soxmom 10-16-2008 11:34 AM

Yay.........My sons testing all came back normal. :D His bruised brain is
healed according to the neurophsychologist. This still means NONE of
his fave sports(football, lacrosse) but at least there is no permanent
damage. He still has to be careful not to get concussion no 4.:( but I
am relieved.

I am very very very happy.:)

Vonn07 10-16-2008 11:37 AM

hi all ...

had a nice visit with my friends from the Appleton area ... took alot outta me ... I was in bed around 8, and took 3 benadryl to sleep ...

I'm trying to stay positive and strong ... considering finding a job - having no income really takes it's toll .. but I don't have the energy to go to a job or work all day ... :hissyfit:

sorry - running out of survival options ... where's that Prince Charming and his bag of gold??

yeahbut 10-16-2008 12:03 PM

I finished the sweater, I will try to take a pic later and post it. I have my bag all ready to go with next one to start tomorrow while at the hospital.

Weekend Plans! I am meeting Riverwild on Saturday to spend the afternoon with her. We are going to "Fort Knox" a state park and to the Bridge Tower. It is one of the tallest towers in the US on a bridge. We have been trying to do this for a year now! :eek:

Have a great afternoon everyone!

SandyC 10-16-2008 12:04 PM

Have fun with RW Char!!!! Tell her we all said Hi!

yeahbut 10-16-2008 12:11 PM

Thanks I will....she is such a riot to be with! I will be sore from laughing I am sure on Sunday! :D

Vonn07 10-16-2008 12:12 PM

Char ... be sure to take your camera and take LOTS of pics ... say Howdie to RW from us ... (she was my Christmas Pal on the exchange ... and I'm still enjoying the socks she sent!)

my apologies .. my rant is over about feeling sorry for myself ... going to work on stuff for the kids with quilts today ... and get my mind off of me!

all will work out ... I'm okay ... yep, I'm okay!!

oh, we've very careful, don't fret, we've got this covered, and most of it will pass south of us.... and it's "only" a tropical storm, not even a hurricane...

the shelter is for those high hurricane winds, and there's stalls with hooks for leashes (for the goats and pig), shelves (for the bunnies and guinea pigs' cages). and brooder areas for the baby chicks and ducklings, with heat lamps, and bedding.

it'll be like a jigsaw puzzle fitting everyone in, but the worst part of the storm only lasts about 10 or 12 hours, so they won't be cooped up long.

we did a "moving" drill, to time getting everyone in, and it takes about an hour... but we MAY need neighbors' help with Becky Bacon, she's over 300 lbs now, pregnant and sorta recalcitrant about being moved.

BUT, we have BRIBES (molasses and coconut treats) to assist in the process... so we think we can handle it pretty well.

we have lots of hay and feed, and a concrete floor with a center drain for hosing, and ventilation openings, and fans for cooling... so, there's safety for at least 100 animals.

the ducks and geese will find their own shelter, they're native to this area, and know what to do...

Quote:

I hope this storm takes a turn and leaves ya'll alone!
well, even if it goes westward towards Guatemala, we'll still get the massive runoff with the river that comes through our village...

we expect more ferry and bridge closures at the very least...

I saw your newest pics on your Wok Wok thread and they are so cute. :)
ˇGracias, a mi primo!

:D:winky::D

Vonn07 10-16-2008 12:31 PM

BRIBES????

well, Kay - you could probably move me with the molasses (mmmm, molasses cookies!) .. .but you can KEEP the coconut ... LOL

how about some apples?? or is that only after the 'spit' effect (i.e.:cooked)

:D

today's Darwin Farm project is another batch of this:

http://cannabis.com/faqs/cannabis_re...ipe/index.html

it's REALLY difficult to find unsalted butter here in the jungle, but we managed to locate a couple of lbs for the cookery.

it's simmering now, and the house smells heavenly!

:D:p:D

don't stress, my dear, with calm fortitude and your wicked sense of humour, you WILL come through with flying colors.

lol, roasted pig with an apple in its mouth!

naw, Vonny, apples don't grow here, and the imported ones are VERY costly, and hard to get...

but having pitayas, sapotes, mameys, watermelons, plantains, papayas, mangos, and pineapples always available makes up for the lack of apples, pears, apricots, peaches, grapes, and berries... mostly.

:cool:

I haven't responded to you because my messy divorce was 24 years ago, and I'm finally over it enough to have recently remarried.

so the perils and pitfalls and pain are but a faint horrible memory for me, and I'm now in the honeymoon stage with my new husband, and hopefully a LOT older and wiser this time.

I hope this travail ends for you soon, and a calm resolution happens, so you can get on to the healing part...

my heart goes out to you during this painful time, and remember to spend time alone, pampering yourself, and focusing on getting yourself extricated with minimum turmoil for the children and you.

take long warm bubblebaths, burn incense, potpouri, candles, play soft music, read a positive book, whatever it takes to calm yourself, and evaporate the resentments and anger.

Momma's Kids 10-16-2008 01:28 PM

Kay...can't you make unsalted butter, wouldn't that be easier than trying to find it. Never tried the cannabis part though. lol Hmmm wonder how well that would work on this pain...

Weaveherr...glad to see your post and hope you are doing better...yep divorces can be difficult even when you do want them...even more so when you don't...hang in there, we're right beside ya.

CayoKay 10-16-2008 02:49 PM

aw, Momma!

it's HARD to churn butter from goat's milk...

because it's got such small fat globules, that's why it's healthier for babies and people like me...

plus, we're milking "meat" goats here, they're of the breed Spanish Goats, and give very little milk (it's enough for us) that yields VERY little cream.

http://www.motherearthnews.com/Real-...-Goatmilk.aspx

real dairy goats, like Nubians are unavailable here, and impossible to import, with all the red tape.

well, Momma, we TRIED, but just couldn't manage it.

on the other hand, we're making lots of yoghurt, kefir, cheese, and even ice-milk (our pal brought us an ice-cream maker, YAY!)

:hug:

good news, kiddies !!

TROPICAL STORM WATCH DISCONTINUED FOR BELIZE

October 15, 2008

The National Emergency Management Organization has discontinued the Tropical Storm Warning that was imposed earlier today. This is because Tropical Depression number 16 has now moved inland and latest reports indicate that it was now on the northern coast of Honduras. As a result the preliminary phase has been lifted but the FLOOD WARNING remains in effect for the country. The Hydrology Department is forecasting that approximately 4 to 15 inches of rainfall is expected causing flooding in most areas around the country.

Well, tonight has been a backfire in trying to get a decent bedtime rolling. Took some pain meds and still tossin' and turnin'. Stretching hasn't touched it either, and sometimes that helps. :( But it doesn't quite feel like the normal aches I get, so not sure what in the world is going on. :confused:

So if you don't see me until later in the afternoon tomorrow, don't be alarmed. Ten to one, I'm hibernating. :D

tkrik 10-17-2008 08:39 AM

Oh dear, I can't keep up! LOL I'm just checking in real quick to say hi.

Kay - I am glad the warning has been discontinued. Thanks for letting us know about that.

Fin - Sorry you had such a rough night.

Soxmom - That is awesome news about you son. You must be so relieved!

Char - Have fun with RW!

Hi everyone else. I hope everyone has a good day!

JustWeave 10-17-2008 08:40 AM

Kay and Momma- Thanks for your kind words of encouragement yesterday. In my heart of hearts I do not want a divorce. On the other hand my head insists I prepare for a split. I'm learning to be extra gentle with myself in a non selfish way. I know if I don't learn healthy ways of dealing with my stress I won't be able to take care of my kids. My kids are the only reason I get out of bed in the morning. Last night I went to a most excellent harp concert alone. Major stress reliever!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
And now for today's news- Still blissfully high from last night's most excellent harp concert. The soloist (a Christian) said during his opening comments that just when you think your stress rope is about to break God sends a harpist. All I could say was halleluiah!
In other news... Well I need to get working on my mental to do list. Put a batch of chili sauce on the stove to simmer all day and make the house smell fabulous, bake a loaf of gluten free bread for myself, and counteract de-cluttering/ packing stress by listening to the CD I bought at last night's concert all day.
Time is marching on and nothing is getting done. Better get moving. Hope everyone has a great day.
hollym 10-17-2008 09:02 AM
Well, in two hours I have to show up for that neuro appt at the Balance Center. I have a couple hours of testing including an ENG (electronystamography) which sounds horrid and then I meet with a neuro who specializes in balance problems. Yikes! I really don't want to do this.
I'm scared of how bad that is going to make the nystagmus. I had a PT one time who decided to induce the nystagmus (I don't remember why) and I ended up not being able to walk and had to lay down for an hour!
ewizabeth 10-17-2008 09:53 AM
Hi Everybody!
Just a quick check in from the office where it's crazy loony today. :icon_eek:
I got the bathrooms cleaned the other day and also vacuumed everything well. :)
Not much else happening so I suppose that's good.
Frank,
I hope your lungs are ok, take care of yourself and don't overdo it!
Fin,
Sorry you had a bad night.
Char,
Have lots of fun with RW. I wish I could be there!
Everybody,
Have a great day, it's FRIDAY!! :Head-Spin:
ahhhhhhh, they just took off the TS warning, but not the FLOOD warning.
just returned from dawn market in San Ignacio, and they were evacuating the vegetable vendors, the market is underwater!
so, we got a REALLY good haul of lechuga y repollo (lettuce and cabbage leaves, sacks and sacks and sacks!) because they didn't want to haul all the excess stuff, so they were cleaning the produce double-quick-time, at 7 am...
the river has spread out UNBELIEVABLY, and just during the time I was loading crates of leaves, the water ROSE to almost cover my boots.
traffic is being diverted, and the bridge is under 12 feet of water... luckily, we leave town in the OTHER direction, eh?
:eek::rolleyes::eek:
I am amazed at the sheer VOLUME of water flowing by, and it's still raining... and according to the forecast, 90% chance of rain every day until next WEDNESDAY...
Hope everyone is having a good day! :grouphug:
