Donna,
I'm thinking the sodium/salt levels are making you retain fluids - that's about the only way your weight can fluctuate so much in one day. If you list the foods that don't upset your tummy, maybe we can think up some nutritious and easy meals for you. What about rice, applesauce, bananas, eggs, yogurt, whole grain cereals? with what ever veggies you like and a small portion of protein? Have you thought about a juicer? Something like that might be really good for you. I was thinking that we might be able to come up with some one dish easy meals too, you put everything in a little casserole dish and bake it or microwave it.

Thanks Jo and Curious
I will work on the mac and cheese Curious. Can I use a different cheese as long as its low fat or something like that. I'm not a cheddar cheese eater if I can help it when I make mac and cheese. Weird I know. I've had banana's, apples, and a double cheeseburger today. Oh and one hot dog. Yes, I wasn't supposed to eat the double cheeseburger. I was doing so well and then I was just so hungry and it was just there. But I have to eat the fiber so I'm glad I can eat the cereal too hopefully. I eat bran flakes usually at this time of year. I was eating oatmeal, but its not something I'm in the mood for right now. Water, hot tea, Lemonade and then of course I'm cutting down on diet coke. I drink mostly hot tea now. And I am cutting out all milk in it and putting just a little cinnamon mixture I found that I like. And some sugar substitute, but I'm slowly going to none of it too. So maybe a little better. But I was doing as much walking and some extra stuff to try exercise. But then I fell so I had to slow down. Donna Last edited by Dmom3005; 05-19-2008 at 10:54 PM. Reason: left something out |

Foods that are okay for me.
roast beef ham turkey, yes, I like rice, but I haven't been able to get pass the white to the brown, so I'm working on it. But so far, it makes me gage. I am very much having problems with anything like this. breads, yes they are bad I know but examples potato, white, bagels (there is another that seems to be more nutritional that I can eat, but brown makes me sick. Something with the texture) I can't eat rye, or the others. cereals, cheerios, honey nut cheerios, special k, chocolate special k, bran flakes, oat meal (with brown sugar) vegetables (cooked) corn, peas, salad, lettuce, onion, tomato (sometimes), fat free french dressing I can't do vinegar or oils, they make me sick to my stomach, I end up not eating salads, if there is no french, or I eat just a little lettuce. Hi Donna,
Its late but a couple thoughts. If you have a craving for a hot dog or hamburger or even double burger start eating them without the buns. And try to switch to ground turkey for the burgers and turkey or chicken dogs or sausages. If you have to have bread make sure its whole grains not just wheat. But try to give up or star cutting back the whites? THings with white flour, and sugar in them. Its hard and it takes aw while so cut them back slowly. I dont know if you have a trader joes near you but they have and amazing and tasty and healthy microwavable brown rice. 3 min in the microwave and its pretty good. And this is from a person who hated brown rice. Also I am hoked on those crystal lights with water. I hate water but with those I can drink a lot of water. Salads dont agree with me....the "D" word. But I am trying to increase my intake of protein. Again tonight my supper was sliced turkey breast with 2 olives, some low fat mozzarella and 2 pieces of melon. Ok off to bed. Thanks Shelley
I don't usually eat white bread unless I'm out. But I'm trying to find something healthy for home, and the grain ones you mentioned are good. I have done pretty good today. I had a breakfast cookie and hot tea at 6:30 am, sorry had to go early for a meeting and it was a nutritional breakfast cookie thing. Then had real breakfast of egg and fruit and yogurt at 9:00am. Then for lunch I had spaghetti and meat sauce, and one bread stick. And a garden salad, and french dressing. Croutons. And I've had a rice cakes today for snack off and on, not more than 40 calories worth. I started the bag it was a small one last night, and finished it today on the road. My dinner is 2 bowls of bran flakes, and a strawberry and banana yogurt smoothie. My intake of drink is: Diet coke, hot tea, cold tea, water, water, water Donna |

Hi Donna,
I think you are doing a good job of managing your meal times and keeping a level blood sugar with meals or snacks spaced 3 hours apart. The problem is you are keeping that blood sugar too high. You need to do it with low glycemic foods and protein. And the carbs should really be more veggies than fruit atleast a 3:2 ratio of veggies to fruits if not more like 4:1 based on five servings a day. Everything you described throughout your day was mostly carb based...the fruit, the smoothies, the pasta, the rice cakes etc. . You need to cut back on the carbs significantly. The potatoes have to go too. And all the bread. Anything white is processed and bad for us. You need protein protein protein. Chicken, fish, turkey, nuts. THe fats have to be good fats, string cheese, hard cheese like parm or olives. Your carbs need to be veggies. You need to get your body into balanced low glucose and insulin levels and start getting into a state of ketosis where you are burning fat for energy. This will burn lbs. And you need to measure and cut back portions. If you added all that food up today you are easily over 2000 calories, maybe even 2500 and we all need to be at 1200 a day. Have you ever been tested for insulsin resitance. I was recently dx's with it after years of eating carbs. Its a reason you might not be able to lose. You are starving yourself nutritionally and seriously lacking vitamins and minerals. And if you are any bit insulin resistant you are not even absorbing any of the vitmains or minerals in the food you are eating. Either way you have to break the carb cycle or you will not lose significant weight. I know its hard guys but we all have to do this. Otherwise we wont accomplish our goals and get healthy. And we do not want to be on the road to insulin resistance. Its is the precursor to inflammation and serious disease. The liver produces cholesterol and glucose and if it gets all mucked up by a bad diet thats when it spins out of control and we cannot lose wight and continue to gain, espeically fat around the middle called visceral fat which is a precursor to diabetes and cancer among other things. So come on we can do it. Eating all this junk we consume is not good for us. Last edited by watsonsh; 05-20-2008 at 08:49 PM. |

I'm still trying to find a veggie I will eat, I still gage on them all,
unless its salad. So thats why I ate a salad at lunch. But the fruit today, just happened to be I was at a place that was what they had this morning to go with the scrambled egg to eat. Forgot it had walnuts too. Yep it was Mcdonalds. But I'm working on it. I just couldn't help it. I wasn't able to come back home to eat in between my meeting this morning and my Physical Therapy. So I ate the best nutritional meal I could find. I knew I was off some but, I was trying. I'm not eating bread unless I can't handle not, I used to love rolls and bread, so its a real sacrifice for me. And when it comes to the insulin part, my blood sugar has been checked so many times this last year, I can't even begin to count. I am working on getting on veggies. I have celery, but I have to not eat the peanut butter on it. I forgot to get some ready this morning when I was leaving, it was supposed to go with me. But that was my mistake. So I still have plenty. So its there for tomorrow. Water and hot tea are my drinks tonight nothing in the drink, just a need to have something to stop the coughing. Donna |

Donna you are doing good and we will all get better at this over time. And learn from each other.
Hey everyone whats your favorite veggie so we can help Donna find some veggies. Mine are steamed butternut squash, green beans, carrots (i know curious) and peas (sure hope cheryl is not reading) Bread was hard for me to give up too. But I am over it now. Candy was even harder. I was sugar fiend. Now on the blood tests, this goes for everyone. The fasting test for sugar and insulin may not show your are insulin resistant. You need the 2 hour one for both. And not to be doom and gloom but fat holds estrogen , its stored in fat. So we need to get rid of the fat and it will protect us from estrogen related disease down the road. Quote:
