Bobby

i doubt that 8lbs is just water weight. with a lot of weight to lose, it may be normal to lose more at first. maybe ask your doctor for some feedback/guidance to make sure you are staying safe. also check your blood sugar to make sure you stay within range not too high OR TOO LOW. change in diet can affect that.

Dear Bobby,
This is good that you are encouraged about your diet.

Don't think of the weight all at once. Think of it in bits and pieces (10% off, 10 pounds off, whatever helps.). And don't think of your final goal all the time. Remember that this is a process. You have started eating in new ways that you can do for a long time.

The amount of weight lost a week has to do with how much weight a person has in the beginning. I think a person might be able to keep up a rate of more than two pounds a week for several weeks or a month and then settle down to 1 to 2 pounds a week.
(I mean I'm giving an example here -- just as Ornish was -- this depends on a person's starting weight.)

You are doing fine.

thanks...i don't have anything to check my blood sugar even though i am diabetic..my doctor checks it every three months...i think she has checks my acac or something and it has steadily risen to eight. She was the one who told me that this was the best diet.
l see her in two weeks and will discuss it with her. maybe i just cursed myself and the weight will stop falling off me. my old friend Bob told me he was worried about me last weekend and told me to try to get down to 260 by the end of May. I didn't think I could do it especially since I have been in a weight gaining mode

thank you Mari
as I wrote Waves, I hope i haven't jinxed myself....why does everything have to be one day at a time. Icouldn't do this diet if i couldn't have pasta....that is a real comfort food. you can also have french baguettes because they have no fat. i bought butter buds which i like if i want to put them on the vegetables. he says no coffee and decaf is less bad. I switched to decaf and didn't get a headache or anything. I forgot what he wrote about caffeine constricting the blood vessels. his book was really funny. he mentioned smoking and the Marboro man. he wrote that half the men who smoke are impotent because of the constriction of the blood vessels so it would probaby scare more men off of smoking instead saying about death mentioning impotency. lol

Dear Bobby,

Dieting to loose weight is harder than stopping smoking or drinking in my book because with those two, a person can just stop whereas with food we have to modulate it.

The thing about Ornish, Bobby, is that this is not a race. I'm sure he thinks people should be on his diet even if they do not have to loose weight. Weigh yourself if it helps and make realistic mini goals if it keeps you focused. Remind yourself that with each meal you plan and eat for yourself you are healing your body and your mind.

congratulations on the 8 pounds......:)
isn't it great to see the scales go down!

I agree with what has been said, sound advice.:grouphug:

I am a bit concerned that your a1c is 8, they should have gotten you a glucometer to use at home, you need to eat proteins thru out the day to help keep your blood sugars stable.
you are doing a good job, small steps...

it keeps on going up because i thought my weight has kept going up...i have a monitor somewhere but it is too stressful for me to use and my doctor said i didn't have to use it. she isn't making a big deal over it because she knows i am bipolar and stress is the worse thing for me

bobby, are you seeing an endocrinologist?
they are the diabetes experts....
I know that you are stressed and that is not good...

i am following my general practioneer and since she didn't seem to think i needed one i am not going to one. I am way overweight and she knows it and i know it and until i can do something about it what good will going to another doctor do. also going to doctors stresses me big time and i think stress is bad for diabetes
