I ate something that was really bad for me...I will never do that again
After a hike at the chicot state park, We went to a buffet....at a casino and racetrack.
On the buffet were ham hocks.
I tried one thinking where on earth would I ever get the chance?
It had an inch of fat attached to skin around a bone...I think it is an ankle bone????
anyway
I tried some of the meat...which tasted like ham but was so discusted with the skin and fat and pile of bones that I had the man take it away.
I could not look at it any more.
the buffet was not good....The gumbo was good and so was the key lime pie.
Went to the gym today and wore a sleeveless shirt to work out in, i usually wear a very large t shirt of sorts. and scrub pants.
At the gym there are mirrors everywhere to make sure you are in proper form while you use the weights. I have to say It was great to see that my muscles are getting more defined...happy about that!:o
I have lost many bra sizes now and gravity is taking its toll...I tried on some spandex pants and very quickly took them off. Not a good look on a pear shaped woman like myself.
yikes!

Ham hocks and Gym workouts

Dear Bizi,

Jamie Oliver shows how to cook ham hock and cabbage.
In the beginning it looks pretty disgusting. At the end of the video the food looks great.

appetite hike... benzo implicated?

i don't do diets either Donna - i just try to watch what i eat, also.

lately i haven't been doing well in this department but...

well my appetite varies naturally, and usually it is not a problem for me to follow my appetite. the problem is when i eat without being hungry) so maybe this isn't it.... but

the past few days i've been really hungry!!!

i think it's the benzo!

i mean last night i had a ham sandwich and was still hungry and had a tomato sandwich (about 5 super-sized cherry tomatoes on wheat, with tartar sauce). that fixed it. but that's a hefty midnight snack! granted i am up late and awake late - don't eat lunch. but still that is twice what i would eat for lunch. and had had icecream after dinner and pie a couple hours after that. normal appetite would be i would have yogurt about midnight.

i hope it settles down. scale is showing an extra pound - could be normal variance ie no gain. but it's only been a couple days. i hope that the appetite just means somehow more calories are getting burned and it's ok to eat. :o

i so don't want to gain the weight back. i've been stationary for a while now, i can be ok with that ... as long as it doesn't go back up. :o

You can eat more, but then it will taper down with time.

It takes time to lose weight the way I do. But I learned that
I need to eat good food to stay health. And food I like to
eat to keep sane.

So I eat moderately both kinds.

you mean the appetite will taper down? i hope! or maybe it is just a natural upswing in appetite - if that is the case i won't gain - it could be to do with an increase in nervous energy (burns cals). if it's the benzo, i'm not so sure though... that it won't cause weight gain.

yep that's what i do too! :) my basic food that i like is very healthy, so i have it pretty easy. but i do allow myself some fun 'extras' now and then, to stay sane. like a coke with lunch, or a beer. (i don't like diet drinks, but i normally drink water or juice... every now and then, i want a coke, and i want a real one, brand name and with caffeine and sugar included!)

my main problem is comfort eating which happens when i get depressed. which means i eat even when i am not hungry, and to make things worse it's usually starchy stuff.

my appetite is usually a very accurate measure of what i need. it fluctuates, and i eat accordingly but don't lose or gain. actually if i am over my ideal weight, i can lose weight that way. but not gain. so, if i'm hungry, i EAT!!!! and i am very bad at not eating when i am hungry! because if i don't i have gotten dizzy and lightheaded and shaky and stuff ... bad idea! i dunno if its hypoglycemia but i do know that it happens if i go too long without eating, so i simply prevent it, by eating when hungry! :) i mean, no rocket science there! :D

but, there can be a problem when my appetite is artificially altered - like with Zyprexa... man that crap packed on the pounds! :( now, i know that the benzo won't do that, but i have more to take off, so don't want even a small gain sneaking back, due to 'artificial' med-induced appetite.

I think anxiety increases your metabolic rate and causes you to burn more calories and thus need more calories....since the benzo is a deactivater...if that is such a word....to calm you.... then it must be a CNS effecter...depressor, lowering your metabolic rate. and maybe need less food...burn fewer calories?????
UGH!
1. don't think I can say what I am trying to say and
2. can't spell....
sigh

right! i mean i think i get what you're driving at.

benzo = depress cns = burn fewer calories = need less food = lower appetite (not higher!)

unless, do you think maybe it's that having been agitated for a while, before starting the benzo, that's what got my appetite up, and not the benzo? that maybe the drug hasn't affected me enough yet to affect the appetite?

that would be ok... if that is the case i should see an appetite decrease in the next few days i'm guessing... she says with growling stomach, as she mows down on a generously stuffed ham sandwich... NOM NOM!!

if the benzo is slowing me down AND increasing my appetite - then, i have a PROBLEM!!!

p.s. tonight i decided to hedge my bets on the sandwich - used mustard and tabasco instead of tartar sauce to dress it :o

OHHH GEEEEZ

can you believe i'm HUNGRY AGAIN!!!!

but i'm going to pretend i'm not and go to sleep and hope that i can fall asleep before it gets bad enough to keep me awake....:o
