Two of my current meds cause it. I take magnesium citrate every night because it is a stool softener.

Dr. Weil has good suggestions here: http://www.drweil.com/drw/u/id/QAA176926

that was a great link. I will buy some triphaha. what brand of magnesium citrate do you use. I use ground flax seed and love it but it isn't helping. I don't get enough oils. I am on topamax. if i take flaxseed oil will that take the place of oil in my system?
I still am on the high protein diet sort of. I have been having a lot of chicken soup though with a lot of carrots and celery in it. I hardly have any carbohydrates after my binge and little if any oil except for the deskinned chicken in the soup. that link was really terrific. thanks again

i am afraid of the exam. I know two people who hemorraged(sp) from it. I tried prune juice and that didn't work. I haven't tried phillips milk of magnesia yet. i have so many suggestions now. I have tried some others which work but i am so afraid of dependency on them and wonder if that is one of my problems. One works amazingly well. mag07- it is a detoxer.

Dear Bobby,

The brand I use is "Calm" -- pictured below. I think the dosing on the container calls for two rounded teaspoons for 350 mgs. I take two teaspoons for a little less than 350 mgs.

I would recommend some oil in addition to ground flax seed.
I happen to not like the taste of flax seed. Hubby puts it on top of his salad. I don't take it very often. When I do, I sometimes simply eat a huge table spoon without anything else. Sometimes I mix the tablespoon with a half cup of water and drink it.

Perhaps you need more fiber:
http://health.gov/dietaryguidelines/...elines2010.pdf
Quote:
The AI for fiber is 14 g per 1,000 calories, or 25 g per day for women and 38 g per day for men. Most Americans greatly underconsume dietary fiber, and usual intake averages only 15 g per day.
http://www.fitsugar.com/How-Much-Fib...etables-214540
One fourth cup of celery is only 2 grams of fiber. The government suggests we eat 25 grams of fiber a day.

Default Hi bobby

I do still understand your worry. If you know someone that had a bad experience with colonoscopy, you are bound to worry. You know me now, and my experience was just fine. No hemorage, no pain, no after effects. I doubt sincerely, that he would order that for you before you tried some other very good things. Everyone mentioned something good you can try to get yoursystem going again. Don't feel self concious, it really is OK as so many of us have suffered the same dog gone thing. Give some of these self help things a try, and then maybe when you go to the doctor, you will already be back to normal. I will be thinking of you bobby, hoping all is well, and that your doctor appt. goes just fine. ginnie

Dear Bobby,

it is hard to know what you need, perhaps the best way is trying different things.

one thing i can tell you is fiber absorbs both oils and water. in fact, non-soluble fiber will absorb oils so that they don't get metabolized - i.e., they won't turn in to "calories" - they will only be used as lubricant along with the fiber (bulk) to help with intestinal motility.

i really recommend you try increasing your oil intake and see how things go. use healthy oils, like raw olive oil or nut oils. nothing that has been cooked with. you can cook without oils, and then add the raw oil to the food.

it is much healthier to reduce simple carbs, if you need to compensate for calories, than to eliminate oils. a minimum amount of oils are absolutely essential as i have mentioned before, to a variety of organic systems including cell membrane structure and repair, molecular transport, and intestinal transit.

the other thing is, for a high protein diet, you need a higher fluid intake than for a more balanced diet. i.e. youn need more water. you can have it in the form of light teas if you wish also - green tea is especially beneficial because of its cleansing properties.

love

I have flax seed but am lazy.
I would rather take a pill than having to do anything other than that.
The mira lax is a powder that you mix in water and take every day. It softens the stool but it is more expensive than the pills that I take, The generic mira lax cost about $20 for a months supply.(i think) the pillls are cheap and easier for me to take.I have been constipated my whole life but since taking these pills I don't have that worry any more.

i definitely will try harder with my diet. i will try more salads with oil based salad dressing. i was shocked at how little fiber is in an apple and flaxseed.
i have green tea in the apartment so i will start making it. i drink too much coffee anyways. thank you so much

thank you so much ginnie. i didn't realize how many people suffer the same problem. it was two people with the bleeding....both had to go to the hospital.I am going to try Dr.Weil's suggestions first because he doesn't say you have to worry about dependence.
thank you again. you are so sweet.
