Hi Judy,
For the 1st time in my life I am trying to lose weight. I always had the opposite but due to mobility issues and meds I put weight on. Since starting all these meds I put on 30 lbs.! However, I lost 15 by switching off of Paxil.

Additionally, I found that eating smaller meals more frequently works better for me. My brain and stomach do not communicate well. I never feel hungry and have to force myself to eat. By eating smaller meals and filling up on fruit (not Montel style - 4 pounds would leave me in the bathroom for days. LOL), it helps me alot. I also find that the dreaded neurogenic bowel (a.k.a. constipation) makes my weight go up.

In addition to walking a little bit everyday, stretching exercises, and resistance bands, I make every move count. When I bend to pick something up I use it as an opportunity to stretch mucle groups. When I clean, I make several "trips" to put things away.

Congratulations of getting off some of the meds. What a great accomplishment and you must be so proud of yourself.

Hang in there, sweetie. You'll get there and we'll help you along the way.

Heart

you guys are making me tear up.
thanks for all your support. it means a lot to me.

i DID IT yesterday and last nite.
i lost 2 lbs this am.
and i've walked.

cheryl, i do take ambien (CR). i also am on trazodone. i have a documented sleep disorder (don't get into REM sleep). that's probably another reason my muscles hurt so bad. so, when i take my meds i'm out.

greta, i used to journal. i did it for the longest time. it does make you more accountable. i stopped but could reconsider it.

well, onto today. it'll be a good one.
cathy comes in april and i want to feel comfortable in my clothes.
and, my annual PE is in march so want my #'s to be good.
i don't feel very good about myself when i'm not doing well (duh, no kidding).

thanks all.

You all should know, conclusively, that AMN is the very best friend you could ever hope to know.

Judy

The reason I asked about Ambien is b/c the nights I take it, I eat...seriously! I have found that it makes me hungry! I just switched to Soma, a muscle relaxer for my night time leg pain/spasticity and it has helped a LOT for the sleeping issues I have (not sleeping!!) and I don't need the Ambien anymore! And I have cut down on the night time wake up snacking!

Just thought I would pass that along to you...I know there is some documentation of people eating (sleep eating is what they are calling it) who are on Ambien.... Of course, I am not sleep eating, I am awake. I know exactly what I am doing...I've not taken the CR, just the regular Ambien and only get about 4 hours of sleep on it and wake up hungry!

hey Judy,

Understand your struggle. I have about 30 more to go, and keep going up/down with the same 5 - at a plateau. I know water weight can be good for a few pounds difference, and the days I'm not great with the water, tends to be the days I eat junk too (like right now)!

journaling is great - I should get back to it. It helps too on days you know you have plans, like going out to lunch. you can plan lighter breakfast/snack and same with dinner. sometimes, small rewards can help, like after 3 lbs, can get a magazine I want, 5 lbs, a book, etc...

hopefully will join you on the exercise soon - loved the "dreadmill".

hang in there - you've already accomplished a lot! you have a lot to be proud of, so don't be too hard on yourself.
