apples

Hi,

I found a way to get myself to eat more fruit.
A few times this week I asked hubby to cut, peel, and core an apple for me when he was already at the table. I buy lots of apples for him but I really don't like being bothered with them for myself.

Anyway, after he cuts up the apple I slice it more and then eat it with my fingers.
Sometimes, important victories seem small in the retelling.

Trust me, this is big.

I am off a little today. But then I do that a lot.

I had my favorite donuts little debbies for breakfast.

And I had a slice of pizza for lunch.

Have to go shopping for food after Derrick gets home.

Probably will get supper out as a treat for him.

Probably subway.

Donna, that is why i am not really on any diet, because if i did i would be "off" often, and then i'd get down about it and spiral into comfort eating (WAAAY OFF) constantly. so yeah, just do the best you can. cut what corners you can. that's good that you are getting veggies on your sandwiches. some veggies is better than no veggies.

Beth, what can i say, you are a real diet trooper. it is hard to "observe" when you have company but don't worry i'm sure you'll get right back on it. a little break is ok. you have done so well. i'm very proud of you.

Mari, that IS a big achievement about the apple... i very seldom eat fruit. times when i do include when my parents feed me a slice of their (peeled) apple after dinner. IF i have an apple of my own accord, i will only eat it off the core, unpeeled, crunch munch. but we don't seem to get the juicy slightly-tart ones, plus mom harps how i shouldn't eat the skin with all the pesticides nowadays and she's probably right. i can't bring myself to sit down and set about with a knife and a plate for an apple, i'm sorry. so i totally respect your apple thing with hubby - i think that's way cool!

i think i might suggest we have pizza soon. we haven't had pizza in probably 6 months or more. dad doesn't care for it much. that or i'm going to break down and have a kebap sandwich one of these days.

This sounds about right.
Somedays we feel that we had foods that are better for us than food that we had other days. It's best to stay away from self-judgement.
There really is no morality to food choices -- they are not good or bad. They just are. Some choices are better than others. And all choices can be fit into any overall plan.

Also, one idea is to celebrate along the lines of what weight watchers calls NSV for (Non Scale Victory). I bought a pedometer and I consider that SOMETHING. When I get around to taking it out of its packaging and trying it I'll let you know what I think. ;)

Regarding food with chemicals: I have a friend who has a Talapia farm. His fish only eat food sold to him by the U S Dept of Agrigulture. He thinks that Talapia brought into this country is not safe. My sis cares about where her shrimp comes from . . . It gets to be too much. . .
I pay attention to food safety, but my shopping and eating habits are inconsistent. Lately I've been telling hubby to stop drinking cow milk. I find it disgusting and yet I eat cheese from cows. He told me to buy him goat milk and some how for the moment I find that less yucky than cow milk.
(I wonder if it is hard for him to be married to someone neurotic about everything. And yet he goes a long with me most of the time, thank Goodness.)

It gets to be too much.
I've seen lists of the top 10 fruits and veggies not to eat unless you are eating organic (strawberries are out according to this, . . . )
I've seen other scientists say that the possible negative effect of the chemicals is out weighed by the benefit of the nutrition and fiber of the fruit / veggie.

I would probably be best if we could eat without over thinking food.
HA. http://bestsmileys.com/lol/5.gif
That might happen someday.

I have to admit as long as I am not gaining weight. I hope to continue
to lose one day. But right now my old pattern of eating doesn't sound
good. So I have to watch myself to not overindulge in cakes and things
like that mainly. Only because I used to be able to eat the whole cake
if I bought it by myself.

Now I just make sure when I buy a cake or something like that its not,
me eating it all in one day. I try to take a whole week. Or Derrick
and my other son's are helping. Or the grandkids that like cake.

I really enjoy just a few fruits. And because I cut myself when I cut
things. I have to buy the precut kinds. Which used to drive my husband
crazy till he figured out that I was losing weight by eating those foods.

But I have to get just the right apples, some are bitter and I can't eat
them. I love strawberries, they are the one thing I can cut okay.
But watermelon has to be in slices at least. Usually I get it precut.
I don't like pineapple, but I'm working on trying to find a way to like
it. Its to bitter for me. But its close, so. I like cantaloupe to a degree.

So if you have any ideas how I can use the fruits to help let me know.

I'm not a veggie eater, except peas and corn. And I really have no wish
to try others. I eat potatoes which I believe some call this.

But I don't.

That is a good goal -- to maintain your weight loss that you already had.

YES! :In-Lurve:
The pre cut foods are fabulous.
My tdoc talked about this --make it as easy as possible to get what we need for ourselves.

Lots of folks are fussy about their apples. I used to buy Red Delicious for hubby but for a while they were not good. Now he tells me to buy Gala (sweet) or Rome (a little tart).
The Granny Smith have been my favorite for years and years.
Maybe you can try the Gala apples -- they are sweet.
You could try Fuji apples -- sweet and jucy.

I like a firm apple more than anything else. That is why I like Red Delicious or Granny Smith.
Is the texture important to you? I used to cut up one and eat it with cinnamon.

My mom used to bake an apple for herself. A baked apple is easy to do if you are already home and have time.
How about apple sauce?

Yes I agree about the strawberries. Also blueberries are easy to deal with. Do you eat grapes?
I started eating green grapes because the are less sweet than the purple grapes. How about the globe grapes? Do you eat those big grapes?
Do you like grapes?

Yes. Pre-cut watermelon or let hubby buy it and carry it home and such.

Yuck. I can't stand pineapple.
Some people find that it irritates their mouth.

Cantaloupe is good. You can buy Honeydew pre-cut too.

I guy frozen baby peas for myself and microwave them.
Also, green beans are ok. Do you like baby peas or green beans?
Potatoes have lots of nutrition.
