hi Ada...(Debbie sorry for taking over the thread here for a min.) I am doing okay. I still have problems with the sciatica in the non-rsd leg. Still taking my methadone and epidurals every eight weeks. Tried radio frequency lesioning for the sciatica but it didn't work. Only thing left for me now is a fusion of L2-L5 to help with the pain so they say.

I stop by at least once a week to see how everyone is doing. I did email you a while back, I do believe it was a PM but I really can't say it was a while ago. Even though I don't post I do say prayers and think about everyone.

Debbie you should start with your gyno about the blocks. If he/she doesn't know about them maybe they can recommend them so w/c will pay for it? that's just my suggestion. You know we always have to play little tricks to have things covered with insurance companies.

This weather is killing me so off I go to do something to keep my mind busy.
Hugs, Jewells

Do you think I should ask for blocks for the burning/freezing...should I do one or the other? There is no cutting...just destroying the lining...ugh...this is all so stressful.

I'm so glad I have you to ask all these questions

PS- Temp here today 35 degrees C----I think that is about 101 F. No packing the pool equipmant away yet.

Debbie,
I think it is a good idea to have some type of "Sympathetic calmer down" before any sort of fiddling with our anatomy.
I don't know whether your doctor does anything with Ketamine but I have a booster dose before I have anything done that involves getting into uncomfortable positions etc. This has always kept me from flaring after.
The problem with your procedure though is that your doctor would probably have to arrange to have it in a day theatre unit rather than his rooms (I think you said you have it in his rooms?)so he can include an anaesthetist in the procedure.
Cheers
Tayla

Default Hi Debbie,

I wanted to answer the one question on blocks. I usually tell the surgeon when we talk about the surgery that I would like a block. When I get in the surgery room I tell the Anesteologist since he is the one that will do it. The ones I have that have done the blocks before my surgeries have been great. They have all been up to par on RSD.

As far as a hysterectomy. This is my honest to goodness thought. I went through this same damn thing. In 95 in Ky. At the U of K. They got all the way to planning my surgeryfor a hysterectomy and then they said that they had changed the law that it could no longer be done unless it was a dire emergency. It took a few more months for them to figure out it had to be done and they did it. All but taking out that one overy. I was so mad about that. In 2000 it had to be taken out anyway because it wasn't any good, along with scar tissue. The hospital here doesn't do blocks so that's what got my RSD going in 2000 with that last surgery in my pelvic area.

My thought would be, I know you love this Dr. but I honestly would go to another one or two and see if you can find one that will do the hysterectomy. They are out there and odds are it's not the law it's what kind of insurance you have. The kind I have they don't want to do a damn thing they don't have to.

As far as freezing and burning, what I had done when I had my tubes done is cut, burned and tied and ended up with an etopic pregnancy. So the burning did nothing to help me. As far as the freezing, I don't know about but again I would want to know what the odds are it will do the job they are saying it will. There is definately no guarantee that it will end your pelvic pain, because it didn't mine. Now I have other diagnoses besides the RSD. I have the IC, the PCS and a few other things.

I think we are prone to all of these things due to our systems being so messed up.

I do hope you find the answers soon.

Jewell's, I don't think I got your PM. I am glad to see you back and that you are. I have back and neck problems and spent time in PT and would go back to it if I became bedridden again before surgery. Bill had back surgery when he was younger and did great though. It's always a toss up. I do know weight makes a difference on your back. If you are heavy set it is harder to get well from it. Bill always weighed just 130 to 150 so he was able to do very good with his back surgery. He was in the hospital with a guy that was on his 5th one and he said it was due to his weight and so did the Dr. I think weight problems add to any health problem though.

I am glad you found us girl. As I said, I have thought of you often.

No weight problems for me yet...although I'm premenopause and have gone from a size 0/2 to a 2/4. One day I was looking at myself in the mirror and there was all this extra stuff on my midsection You know that saying if you can pinch an inch. It is a real problem for me though because I really have a hard time exercising. Oh well, that is life. I did start on some hormone replacement and hope it will help with the increased pain I have been having. The estrogen that my gyno gave me is a very low dose so I will see. Sleeping at night or should I say the lack of sleep is killing me. I'm so afraid to take anything more then my methadone at night, I want to wake up in the a.m.

You are correct though extra weight can cause increased problems for us with our back, knees and hips... Of course it usually is seen as we age

Right now I'm looking at buying a pilates reformer to help my back and of course address that extra weight I have put on. The reformer is great to work out on. Before RSD I always worked out and feel like a slug now.

Must finish up what I started so I can get ready for bed. I'm taking a little break here...if I don't get back up soon I won't get up at all. Have a good evening Ada and Debbie. Talk with you soon. Hugs, Jewells

Hi Gigglebabe- just getting back to you from your earlier message!

Here's Hannah now, she'll almost two and is a real tearaway! She's more full on than my other three kids put together! But that cheeky look is what lets her get away with all kinds of trouble! lol

She's often frustrated with me at the moment, as I lie down on the lounge a lot as my leg has been flaring up. She'll grab my hand and pull and pull in an attempt to get me up! But now if I say "Mummy sore" she looks at my foot, scrunches her face up and says "oooh" , so she's starting to understand whats going on but she's not happy about it!

It's so hard looking after her when my hubby is at work (only 2 days a week thankfully though) but she's a joy mostly! Dayne's at school now so its just me and Hannah at home during the day, which isn't too bad.

I twisted my rsd ankle in December and still have a lot of dramas from that (very little movement but just enough to walk here and there), couple that with these gyno problems and all the rest... it hasn't been easy since she was born.

BUT at one point I had my hubby working six days a week while I had a 4 year old, a 2 year old and a newborn at home and no use at all of my rsd hand, so I guess if I can get thru that I can get thru anything! lol

Hope you're doing ok, thanks for asking about us!

x Kate

Default Hi Cake,

What a beautiful little girl.

Debbie,
How are things going? Did you decide what was going to be your choice of surgery? I hope you are able to get it soon.

Jewells, You don't sound big enough to worry about your weight. If I only had your problem. I wear size 8-9 and I feel big at times. You should have no problem with surgery as far as the weight issue goes.

Default Hi Debbie,

I was going to ask you about the where you are if the University would take you. They go by income and since you are disabled I bet you could get the surgerydone quicker.

Here in Co. the hospitals have it set up to where if a person has no money they only pay by their income in the ER or for surgery. My payment was 10. for either.

My Drs. office has it set up to where they go by income for people. I have insurance but before my insurance, he took care of me for 5 yrs free. He does that a lot.

I know Ky. has nothing like this though so I don't know how it would be where you are at.

I wish they did have more to offer down that way.
